Greetings guys, Daniel from Garage Life here. I figured its time to make a build thread for this car. we have built this car from the ground up to prepare for Global/Redline time attack. We are proud to announce that we have partnered up with Will Wattanawongkiri from Team WWR and Pink Ribbon Racing. This build is not only to show what a rotary motor can do, but more importantly to raise breast cancer awareness amoung the auto enthusiast community. Now with that being said, lets get onto the pictures and build information.

testing went really well today.
Ran into some minor issues with the power steering rack leaking, and tire rubbing issues. We ended up removing our hankook td 295s and put on 2754018 street tires instead. We laid down a impressive time at streets of willow.

More adjustments and work to do !!

Aaron,
Yeah they are traklites. We had slight rubbing issues on the 295/40/18s going to try and refit the front fenders to fit them..

Oh man what crazy two weeks. Been extremely busy testng and adjusting the susupension and aero. Now we have a car that is capable of sub 150s at Buttonwillow.

However on race day the rain was relentless! Our group session would be up and the rain would come out of nowhere. We were able to land 2nd place, if we just had a good dry lap we could have posted a very fast time.. On test day we were able to hit a 1:52 on old TD tires, bad brakes, megan coilovbers..

Aero looks great, and at sub 1:50 for BW13 its working too... Cool to see a high level rotary RX7 in TA, last one that caught my eye was Jack Mardikian's back 6 or 7 years ago.

Arca_ex 02-24-15 06:09 PM

Saw this car last weekend and it looks sick, I thought I might be the only rotary guy out there once I get my car done haha. Hopefully I'll be out there soon, I'll be in Limited RWD as well.

I've got some footage of the car in the pits and on track as well, I'll sort through it within the next couple of weeks.

Sucks about the rain, it was really coming down towards the end of the day there, my shoes were completely soaked through for most of the day, not fun!

what a beast! Looking forward to seeing some results :icon_tup:

I know Dan is beyond too busy to update this thread, so I will chime in.

They upgraded the car to an Adaptronic S6 FD Rx-7 PNP, and with ecu + more aggressive tuning only picked up almost 40 at the wheels. Also the clutch started slipping so it would have been even more! See attached dyno sheet.

dkwasherexd 02-27-15 04:52 PM

thanks for posting the dynograph! we are out here today at streets of willow testing! hopefully our first shakedown goes good! then tomorrow off to buttonwillow to prepare for competition day!

What are those new wheels I see on it?? bit of dish....

testing at streets of willow CCW

Friday morning we headout to streets of willow for more testing the new susupension setup from Circuit sports gears racing, and testing new adaptronic ecu. The car looked very fast out there and was very hard to get a solid hot lap in as there was much traffic. Michael Lin, Tommy, and Ted the engineer(designer of the susupension) was here to help dial in the coilovers. We were able to hit SUB 1:20, consistent 1:19s depending on traffic. A few really close to 1:18. This time is already fast enough for top 5 fastest of all time at streets of willow!

That night we headed out torwards Buttonwillow for more testing in preparation for Redline time attack round 1. Got there early and had a good 8 hours of sleep before testing again. We were hitting consistent 1:50 on buttonwillow config 13 cw, there was a lot of traffic making it hard for us to see what she can do. Playing around with tire pressures, recording tire temps, track temps, air temps, after hot/cold laps and recording a lot of data. We also had the Michael Lin, and Ted of Circuit sports dial in our suspension. Our day ended early again due to rain. We were very confident we can break in to the 140s zone. Headed back to the hotel and made a to do list.

After talking with Elliot@turblown I had some very good tuning advise on fixing the throttle response from decel. I also setup auto tune close loop and trusted the ecu to do my job as I am too busy to keep up with the unpredictable weather changes from very cold to very hot to cold the next minute. The ECU did AMAZING, car ran flawless with no hiccups, and adapted to the weather changes! In our qualifying run we managed to hit sub 1:50s on old hankook tds( that I drifted on ooops)
Qualifying first on the grid, on our time attack session we put on new tds, and we actually lost 1/2 second but was still laying down 1:49s. We didn't have enough time to scrub the new tires in. Back in the pitts we bleed the brakes again, checked for loose bolts, adjusted the splitter, adjusted tire pressure, and crossed my fingers again.
Nxt time attack session, we were VERY close to 1:48s, Will (driver) said he made two small mistakes losing a bit more than 1 second but still laying down anther mid/low 1:49. We believe we hit the car's limit and seeing it potential of doing 1:48.

We ended up winning our rear wheel drive mod class, and Fris from Lucky7 racing got 2nd place! It was definitely a good podium finish for rotarys today.

We won three awards for 1st place rear wheel mod class, , Modified class overall champion, and FASTEST overall car of the day. The second fastest car was a GTR doing 1:50.
Tasted shampagne, felt really good!! WHat a great day for the rx7 and rotary! First time in history an rx7 rotary has won MOD class in Redline time attack!!!

On the way to KBBQ, we were already planning on what to do next to hit our target goal of 1:44 MINIMUM. The car is still in very early stage of development and we have about 30 days before the next round.

Some key things we will be doing is 500whp, e85, flex fuel sensor, better front aero, more rear downforce, new clutch that can hold power, utilizing the intercooler/radiator for more downforce, and a couple small things.

stay tuned!

Very Cool Dan!!! Loving the Updates!!

dkwasherexd 03-31-15 02:04 AM

Quick updates

E85 flex fuel sensor arrived- I will be wiring that into the adaptronic pnp through one of the speed sensor pins
Injector dynamics 2000s secondarys/kg rail- installing the new injectors this week
AEM 380lph inline pump, surge tank, -8an, -6an braided lines, bulkhead fittings all in the works!

Action clutch is onboard with us now! we will be using their IRON man series race clutch!

I should be able see the dyno this week or next week. Im estimating 500-550whp at the same boost level on 80-85% ethanol!!

We will be doing some more track testing at Streets of willow this week. Our PB time at streets is a very low 1:19 clockwise config. We should be hitting 1:18s with the coilovers revalved thanks to Gears racing!

We will also be selling team race shirts soon and proceeds are going torwards breast cancer charity!!!!
