00020B's Street / Time Attack 20B build

So after following many other builds for years and quietly working away on my own projects I thought it a good time to share my new build since I have gained so much knowledge from the other users contributions its time to give some back !
Recently I have been following John Hujiben and Mannykillers excellent build ups which have inspired me to start my own thread.
This is more of a 'rebuild' thread as I have already been through a few motors and configurations over 10 years with the car but nonetheless now's a good time to start even if I am part way through !
So currently running a NA stock 20B with triple throttle bodies and custom exhaust.
I have made the decision now that after having some fun with it to put the turbo back on and get some boost happening ............
Updates to come -

Let's just say I'm a BIG Motec fan
As they say knowledge is power, the more I can datalog the more I can learn about how to tune better. I guess running 3 wide band lambda sensors and 3 egt sensors might be taking it a bit far but it's nice to be able to tune each rotor individualy from each other.

Recently completely re-made the fuel system with Teflon hoses to get rid of the fuel stink as the previous setup was a bit of a hack job which was done by the previous workshop I used to take the car to.
Also upgraded and re-routed all the battery cables for more cranking power.
Looks much neater now but those brackets took forever to get perfect.

so what made you decide to go ITB in the first place? Just curious....

mannykiller 10-29-12 10:13 AM

Love it! Looking good, How do you like your cobra seat?!

Just thought it would be cool to build it like a jap N/A time attack car, flows much better top end too !

Incredible looking car!!

Thanks, wish I had the time to spend like your build ! Love the cobra seats and they for perfect in the FD ( except a small amount of trimming on the center console ).
I have a detachable steering wheel to make it easier to get in and out but the seats are very comfortable when your in them.
My wife not so enthusiastic about them being in there ;-)

This just turned up today from Xcessive.
Been wanting one ever since I saw Herblenny's 20B FD build up.
Very nice piece.

Why did you decide against your short crank 3 rotor?

Thanks ! The airbox took a bit of work but it functions really well.

Why did you decide against your short crank 3 rotor
It broke an apex seal and I couldn't be bothered fixing it, besides which I wanted something a little less radical on the streets, 620 HP at the rear wheels is just insane :-)

Decided to get the manifolds stripped and clean the throttle body so I can get all the linkages replated.
I'm looking at a grey coating to protect it although I have seen gloss black looks pretty nice.

Does anyone have a 20B ecu map for a Motec ecu they would care to share with me ? Looking at getting some ecu files together to have a look at which will help with when I get around to tuning it.
Quicker than starting from scratch.

bufferovrflo 10-29-12 11:52 PM

Awesome, nicely built! Do you have any videos of it in action?

Willing to sell the old N/A intake manifold setup since you wont be using it anymore?

Very nice car btw :bigthumb:

Purchased an FD power steering pump, bracket and crank pulleys to re-install the power steering.
Thanks to http://www.sir20b.com.au/ for fixing me up with the parts.
Everyone raves about the PS depower mod but I have to say it annoys me, maybe the 3 rotor puts a little to much weight up front for it to feel 'right' but personally I think it's a step backwards for a street driven car.
Maybe my arms are just too puny to cope :-)

00020B 10-30-12 07:41 PM

I notice the RE-Amemiya time attack car has a nifty side mount power steer pump with adjustable bracket , anyone done this ?

But the good thing is you can now buy them ;-)
I'm sure the turbo will keep me happy for a while !

John Huijben 11-07-12 02:53 AM

Wow.. nice car, and very nice engine bay! All that motec gear you put in there makes me drool.
How long did it take you to get that n/a 3-rotor setup together and in the car? There looks to be a lot of custom parts in there!

00020B 11-07-12 04:06 PM

John,

I've had a 3 rotor in there for around 10 years although been through a few configurations.
I've had motec from day one but slowly built up the system as and when I can afford new products they bring out. May as well datalog everything !
On a side note the Motec ecu's can run a 4 rotor with full ignition split, the new M1 ecu that just came out is truly awesome.
Not cheap but when you add up all the stuff to do it the 'wrong' way then redo it again it wouldn't be much difference sometimes.
Most of the fabrication work is my own just fiddling around in my shed, I hate paying other people to do things :-)

Big_Mike 11-14-12 10:32 PM

awesome build.

When you get the parts electroplated do you have to clean the threads or anything when they come back to you? How well does it hold up? the build looks good cant wait to see it done.

Not sure, I'm really fussy about stuff so I put everything through my parts washer THEN sandblasted it on my little home size blaster.
I think this made a difference as the plating is really stuck on there.
Just figure I would give the parts as best chance to be done properly rather than skimp on a bit of cleaning.
No the coating is pretty thin so didn't have any probs with tight threads.
They even screwed old bolts into the nuts to keep the plating off, that's customer service for you !
Tried a few places in Australia but these guys are the best and no arrogant ego's to deal with on the phone which makes a nice change.

Injector dynamics going into secondary rail.
I wanted to run them in a top feed primary rail but it wouldn't clear with the Xcessive lowered 20B intake manifold. Bit of a design flaw if you ask me so will have to stick with the OEM 550cc.
