’94 Build with ’99 turbos
So I have had the FD for just over 10 years now. I just retired from the Navy after 20 years and the 7 needed a lot of work. So my wife basically gave me a retirement present. Get some work done on your other woman! HAHAHA
SO I started collecting parts as could for several months. Got some sweat deals from a few members here on the forums and a lot of questions answered. Then a few weeks ago on the way home from work I lost the engine. Ended up a compression test to see how bad. Rear rotor was around 90-95 psi, front was 65-70psi. She was due anyway, 168k miles on the org turbos and 90k miles on the 13b. Engine is currently at Atkins rotary getting a rebuild as I’m writing this. The shop doing all my other work and tuning is MAX RPM Motorsports in Bremerton, WA. So I have acquired a lot of aftermarket parts and some OEM for this. Here is some of the stuff off the top of my head. There is quite a bit of other misc parts that needed to be replaced/upgraded also. I was going to add a water/meth kit. But fundage started to run short. So I’ll add that next year. But I’m hoping to be around 350hp range. So we’ll see what goes on. Sounds like a good build. I wish you luck. And you are lucky you have a wife like that!

No kidding right. I remember 2 years ago i was ready to get rid of the 7. Always gotta fix something. She said I dare you to find another car that makes you that happy to drive. It's true I test drove prob 7-10 cars. None of them came close. Bonus is she likes it too. But she can't drive a stick...HAHAHA

Bunch of parts have come in. I'll take some pics later. Engine will be back in another week. I'll be headed to the shop this coming week. Will report more later.
|
Sounds like it will be a good build and a blast when it's all done - good luck! :bigthumb:
|
So got word today, I didn't need housings and the motor will be back at the shop today.
|
Awesome

Ok quick question. I have not run a premix at all for the last 10 years on the 7. So with getting rid of the OMP how much pre-mix should I go with. Should I run around 1/2 ounce per gallon or more? Everything I have been reading everyone has a diff opinion on how much to run. I'm thinking of running the IDEMITSU premix I know it says 1/2 ounce per gallon but is that with or without the OMP?
|
1/2oz per gallon is with OMP, IIRC others run 1oz per gallon w/o OMP.
|
thanks!
|
Awesome. Good luck with your build.

So I just got some bad news today as I delivered the last item needed for my build. The rotary guy there had quit. So the block is sitting on a bench already rebuilt but everything is in pieces...
|
Wow that sux, are they still gonna charge you for the work they did? I would at least ask for a discount for the trouble you'll have to go thru to find another builder, unless they are gonna finish it... But I don't know if I would let them finish the build if their "rotary guy" left.
|
The engine was already rebuilt by adkins. So it's just a block right now the rest is on a bench and in boxes. I'll be meeting with the owner on Wednesday to figure out what we are going to do. I'm not thrilled about this. I'll have to prob look arounf the portland Or area or find a shop closer to where I live to even see if someone would take it over.

It’s been a while since I updated this thread. So where is the car and how is it doing? It’s Still at MAX RPM in Bremerton, Wa. Aaron who has been taking care of it has been talking with Andy (adaptronic) and a few other people I have bought parts from diff shops. Huge Props to Andy for all his assistance! I can’t say how much I appreciate your help!
The engine is close to 75% complete. I just saw it today and it looks great. Aaron has been taking pics for me and When I get some I’ll post em up. I have a few and I’ll get those up hopefully today. We are getting a few other items added to the build also. The Banzai Racing transmission cross member and FD3s Polyurethane Motor Mounts (Steel Brackets). Also the Hi flow Cat from RX-7 store and the FFE 60 tooth trigger wheel. I’ll have to update the org post with everything that has been bought/installed. A/c has been removed, Double throttle, cruise control and other misc things have been deleted. Hoping to get the car back around the end of jan. Looking at being tuned for 14-16 psi. Not really sure what HP #’s we’ll be looking hoping for 350 ish + but It’s going to be a nice ride either way again. Edit: pics added from several months ago. I'll have more soon. Carl |
So it has been a while again. Gotta love work and family life! Just this last Monday (6/30/14) the car was started. Had to adjust the fuel on the map to get it started. After that it just fires right up. Idles pretty good also.
We had let it warm up and we found a pin hole leak in one of the coolant lines to the turbos. Few other minor things to button up and make a shroud for the intercooler. Once we get that part in it'll be breakin time and then on to the dyno for tuning. I have a few more pics I'll post up. But need to shrink them before I post them up. |

Nice build. What are your next set of plan for her? Did u ever make it to the dyno? numbers if u did?
|
Looks really nice, would like to see some of the exterior.

She dyno'd at 290ish to the wheels. I don't like how that run looked. I'll post the dyno run tonight. I don't think they did a full pull from low rpm all the way up. Their 02 sensor also fried so they where tuning from the wideband. So the AFR's on the dyno sheet are false.
The guy's I believe turned her real rich as I'm hitting afr's of 9 on full boost. I'll also post some pics when I get home. I got her back just last week and have been driving quite a bit. Getting a feel for her again. But she really pulls hard once that second turbo hits. Carl |

here's the dyno at 14psi. Like I said ignore the AFR's on the sheet. Their 02 sensor also fried so they where tuning from the MTX-L.
