B3R 2012 - Spring

Hey, I discussed it with a few folks in Oct about possibly doing a Spring B3R... I'm thinking maybe a month after DGRR...

I'm just wanting to put the idea out there and see who all would be interested in joining me for camping in warmer weather! It would be in May...

But I do want to say, by no means is this in any way to take away from DGRR... DGRR is a great event and I love going to it myself... and if I had to pick between a B3R and DGRR in the spring, I would pick DGRR and encourage others to do the same...

But this is to give another opportunity for rotary (and former-rotary) lovers a chance to socialize...

so, thoughts? feelings? ideas? if there seems to be enough interest, I'll look into throwing something together...

Recently moved to Lexington, VA. I have an unmodified 1979, which I bought new. Looks like most of you guys are in North Carolina; but, if possible, I would like to find out more about RX-7 related activites in the Blue Ridge area. I am retired and now have time to have fun and start to learn more about our car.

Original owner 1979. I'm jealous! Looks like a nice 7! Welcome to the site! :icon_tup:

I've always wanted to get a 79' Rx7. It was the first year of the 7 and also
my first year in the world. We were meant to be together!

Sounds like a time. I'm sure we'd like to attend in some fashion.

What is this "apple pie" I hear of. It must be "good" if it's in "quotes" :-)

Thanks! The DGRR looks interesting, too. We have driven that road and it is REALLY curvy. We wished we had the 7 when we were there.

I need some tech info on the exhaust system on my car. It is the original and the smaller pipe has some holes in it and needs to be replaced. I can't find any source and the Club's FAQ doesn't seem to have an exhaust thread. The mechanic I found here says he can just remove the rotted out pipe and weld the opening shut. Sounds a bit ghetto to me. Are there any 1st gen members you know who might be able to advise me?

Thanks for your reply. She is a sweet car. We actually bought it in Ohio, in the town where my wife and I were born. Only has 52,000 miles and is original except for the paint which gave out back in the 1980s... I guess their silver paint couldn't handle the Texas sun.

I am fixing her brakes, shocks (taking the originals off finally), door seals and a number of other little things this winter so we will be ready to hit the road in the Spring.

Hmmm, do you need to pass emissions? If not go to Racing Beat and order up the
whole header and exhaust setup and get rid of the heat exchanger and old exhaust.
If you need to pass emissions, look up a guy in here named DivinDriver. He's in
cali but has to pass their strict emissions each year with his 1980 RX7. He's got a
lot of experience refurbing and repairing to pass emissions.

I would be down! Nothing like getting to run the blue ridge again. I will have to place an order for some apple pie to bring home.

HahaManLaw 03-22-12 05:10 PM

Where is this at exactly?

lt1_rx7 03-22-12 10:21 PM

Some start in Asheville NC and drive the parkway to Cherokee. A few from GA/AL jump on the parkway out of Brevard via 276. We have camped out in the Smokemont Campground right off of US441 in the Smoky Mountain National park, just a few miles away from the TN boarder.
