FD block off plate locations

It seems there is a lot of confusion lately as to the locations of items that can get blocked off. We had a customer's car that we were doing a vacuum line simplification on, so we took the opportunity to take some pics and hopefully clear up a few questions. We created a page that details the plate, the name, the location of the component and then finally the block off plate installed.

why would you remove the original part and block it off with plates?apologies for the newbie question but I'm kind of confused. thanks in advance

1slandboy 04-10-13 10:54 AM

......and also if you were to take out the EGR valve and block it off and all the emissions, wouldn't that be illegal ?

Banzai-Racing 04-10-13 10:55 AM

Emissions removal, if it is illegal for you, then you shouldn't do it. Keep your car completely stock.

Because the parts are disabled either due to a stand alone engine management system not supporting it or due to it's intentional removal due to other parts that integrate with the system being changed/removed or the part is unwanted as it does not help the performance of the vehicle and in some cases hinders it. Most of these plates block off components that were for emissions control or cold start conditions or both, race cars don't need any of that.

In the united states it's illegal if the car is to be registered, have a tag, and driven on public roads. If the vehicle is for off-road use only(IE a dedicated race car) then it is not illegal to remove the emissions systems. At least that is my understanding of the law, keep in mind that I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.

Additionally, when has something being illegal ever actually stopped someone who wanted to and was determined to do it from doing it? Not that I am advocating breaking the law, I'm just saying that some people choose to do so. You should follow the advise above and only remove emissions equipment if it is legal for you.

I'd buy a LEO dinner if he stopped me (in a no-smog state nonetheless) and could look at the engine and know my EGR was blocked off. I wouldn't even be mad, just impressed.
