Broke7 = Broken carb

Hello all,

As requested by the mods I am posting my complaint here with Broke7. The story is as follows. Pretty straight forward IMO.

I recently( a month ago) bought a DelLorto DHLA48 used from Broke7. He claimed in the sale thread and attached PM that the carb was in good shape and just needed a rebuild and cleaning. When it arrived I did a quick glance over the carb for major shipping damage and saw none. As I had a rebuild kit on the way from the UK, I set the carb aside without any detailed inspection.( my fault here I admit)
Fast forward to today. The carb is rebuilt and installed on my FC. I cannot for the life of me get the thing to idle as it just fouls the plugs and puffs black fuel smoke. I remove the carb and go back thru my work and recheck everything.

Upon closer inspection I find that both the bottoms of the air/fuel mixture screws have been broken out.( As they both are broken out I didn't think much of it as they looked the same:( ) This renders the carb useless as the mixture screw cannot meter the circuit as designed. I think you will agree with me there.

I contacted Broke7 with this info and got the reply of," 50% of all the carbs I use are like that and it will actually work better" See attached PM's.

I would like to get a refund as I have asked him and he refused. I have no use for broken carbs and have never scammed anyone on the boards and am a upstanding member IMO. I am a professional mechanic for the last 12 years and have been around carbs my whole life( granted they were m/c carbs) But I know you have to be very light handed with all carb parts. I did not cause this damage and will have my wife( a lawyer) witness a lie detector if needed

Any help you can lend in this situation would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.

David Zachman

Just recieved response from Broke7 regarding how to fix my issue.

"run some smaller idle jets. Your specialist is wrong. "

So I should have to rejet my carb to compensate for broken idle circuits? I don't think so Kevin.:(

Just refund my money and you can sell this for parts or use it yourself if you think it is useable. I don't need a broken carb.

For the record, this is where the rebuild kit and info on the effects of the damage are from. Fairly knowledgeable people.

If any mods could encourage Broke7 to come here and tell the public that I should just use the broken carb he sold me as it will be more responsive, that would be great. As he is ignoring this issue. Banning him from the forum or at least from selling parts should be applied until he has resolved this.

The CARB does NOT work Kevin! You even admitted that this is the way you got it.( After I called you on it) Which by admission means that you knew the holes were broken out. Then to rationalize selling me crap parts you say" I should just rejett and it will be great". At least have the balls to come here and tell everyone I am wrong and it will work fine.

You have the rsponsibility to describe the parts as best you can. You admit that the holes were broken when you got it but NEVER made mention of that fact in your f/s thread OR via PM's. Do the honorable thing and refund me my money.

The wait between purchase and rebuild is due to parts coming from the UK. The carb sat in a cupboard for the entire time.

Broke7, we need you to come in here and post in this thread.

Bottom line, you sold the man a broken part. Refund him his money or you'll get a permaban from this site. You're also prohibited from any classifieds activity until this is resolved.

BigIsland, did you use a credit card to pay for the carb? I'd be on the phone with them.

broke7 03-14-11 08:22 AM

I am not going to refund his money. He was happy when he got the carb now almost a month later he wants his money. Read the thread he posted he liked it. The carb will work fine. I have bought and sold a lot of parts on this site and have been a member for a long time. People need to realize this isn't Walmart. I have responded he has my contact information. So I guess I am now banned.

BigIslandSevens 03-14-11 08:55 AM

PAYPAL was used. I am contacting them today. Wanted to give Kevin the chance to do the honorable thing.

Kevin, I admitted all my mistakes in this issue. first and foremost trusting you to send me a part that was as described. Not inspecting it in detail I also admitted. I put the carb aside as to not lose any parts until the rebuild kit showed up. Again, I trusted the carb was as described.. It is not.

You still have a chance to save face and continue selling here. Mistakes get made, I made my own in this issue. Mine however do not render me with a broken part. Yours have left me with a broken part that is completely unuseable, regardless of what you say.

You have been told by the mods to refund my money. I am well aware they cannot twist your arm to do so( other than to prevent you from further dealings on here), But PayPal and small claims can. Not to mention Karma. ( She'll leave you with a mean case of Montezumas revenge hopefully!;))

Yes it is not Walmart,( not sure of the point here) It is also not a venue for you to sell broken parts to people for profit. $250.00 shipped for a paperweight carb.??

Do what you want

BigIslandSevens 03-14-11 09:22 AM

Paypal dispute has been opened. You have until April 3rd 2011 to refund me before I ask them( paypal) to resolve it in a claim. After that the next step will be taken.

Be a man and do the right thing!!

GoodfellaFD3S 03-14-11 10:56 AM

Dave, I'd recommend going directly through your credit card immediately. In most cases paypal can't or won't help you.

Broke7, you're done.

BigIslandSevens 03-14-11 11:11 AM

Rich- Thanks for the help. I am speaking with the bank today. I will keep the public updated on the resolution if any when it happens.

So dissapointing that we can't trust anyone anymore.

Update for the Mods:

The seller offered a refund upon HIS inspection and decision on whether it was unusable. I think we all know how that would have ended.

The good that came from this thread for me is that someone took the parts carb off my hands and I recovered my money.

Mods can close this thread and deal with the seller( Broke7) however they see fit. The fact still stands that he knowingly sold broken parts and didn't care after he was confronted about it.

Thank you for the space needed to deal with bad sellers.

Dave
