Windsheild washer tank for AI?
What would be wrong if i used the stock windsheild washer fluid jug as the container to house the AI fluid?
Thought I could use the low level switch as an alarm or such. Thanks, Ian |
The bottom is very low, you should keep the pump lower than or as close to the bottle outlet as possible to ensure that the pump primes. This would be hard to do with the stock washer bottle location, that all I can think of.

my primary consideration would be safety. if you run water or a 50/50 mix, neither being flammable, you'd be o k. i wouldn't recommend 100% meth unless your feeling lucky.

Thanks guys for the response. I will be running 50/50. I called mazda to price out a new jug just to have one super clean and beleive it or not it was $90+taxes. Wow. Piece of plastic.
Any experience on how far you can run the tubing from the pump? I would like to hide everything as much as possible. thanks again. Ian |
Tubing can be run however far you need. I've got a little over 7 feet here with no problems. My pump, tank, and controller are mounted in the hatch.

I can't remember, since my car has been in hibernation for quite some time.. Does the FD have a low level warning for the washer tank?
|
I've been using the washer tank for a couple years, no problems at all. 100% meth. I'd rather keep the meth in the engine bay than somewhere in the hatch.

Some FCs have three washer tanks.
One in the back for the hatch wiper, if equipped. A small one at the right front fender for the windshield. And a big one at the left front fender, for the headlight washer, if equipped. |
I just installed my Cooling Mist Stage 1 kit and used the headlight washer tank in the drivers side front fender well. The tank is at least 2 gallons. It worked out great. I can post pics if someone needs them. I just have to get them off my camera.

Here are the install pics. I pulled off the wheel well cover and to my surprise there was a huge tank there and just enough room for the pump. I capped and tucked the stock tubing for the headlight washers. I drilled and tapped the fitting for the tank to pump. I had to make my own mounting hardware to fasten to pump to the chassis. There is also a perfect hole to run the tubing to the engine bay. I added a gormet for saftey. Another cool thing was the tubing fit right in the factory clips.

Clean install. I got rid of my old system to use pre turbo. No I wonder if I should have done so. I just wanted simplicity.

Rear Mount Water/Methanol Tank ? SMG Racing
^It looks nice. But $300 for a tank with (only) a gallon capacity? I'm using the stock FD washer tank with a little less than a gallon capacity and much less line routing for free. And no need for baffling. I do have the stock rear washer tank I picked up for the cost of shipping. I've considered adding it, which would increase my capacity about another quart for the cost a second line and 'T' fitting. |
