Sequential Turbo AI Install

6 Attachment(s)
I got a basic Coolingmist 150 psi pump, 500cc/min system and customized it for my setup. After talking with Dudemaaan, I decided to go with dual injection, one for each turbo.
I started the install by modifying and installing a rear washer tank I got from Malloy Mazda. I removed the washer motor, filled the hole with silicone and drilled and tapped a fitting on the bottom.

Since the washer tank will only hold about 40 oz, I would need more than that unless I wanted to refill every hour of use. I didn't want a trunk mounted tank/cell that would take up what little space I have so I decided to make an additional tank for increased capacity. Stealthy yet accessible. Capacity should now be over a gallon.

Finding a place to mount the new tank actually dictated its size and shape, so the space between the gas tank and the rear subframe was the perfect spot for it. It sat lower than the rear washer tank and it was up out of the way of everything. I made brackets for it so it could be easily removed to access the fuel filter.

The pump mounts similar to H.C. Made a bracket and bolted it on.

Relays Mounted To Battery Tray

Wiring the relays for the pump and solenoids was all I was able to complete before I ran out of time for Zoom Fest at Road Atlanta. I should be able to complete the install and test it out by next weekend. I'll take additional pics of the finished install.

Awesome work so far, im anxious to hear how it all works out. If you find yourself burning through too much water you might raise the activation point. I had mine set pretty low at first and the water was gone after just a few hard pulls. Now it's set around 8 psi and it lasts probably 5 times longer.

Thanks. The shipped-from-the-factory setting on the pressure switch is 10 psi, so I will probably try it at that level first.

What a great idea!

Some came with the AI kit, the rest from Lowe's and McMaster-Carr.

Don,

Are you doing this for added engine security against detonation or wanting to run more boost? nicely done fab work as well. Good seeing you at Zoomfest as well.

Yes and yes and also to cool the intake charge to see if I can achieve the horsepower goal I initially set out to make. I made 382 WHP with AIT around 60C, I figured if I can drop the temps down to at least 40C I should be able to squeeze that last 18 WHP out of it.
Thanks. Yeah, it was good to see all you guys too. Looking forward to the next big gathering so I hope you didn't make just a cameo appearance :) .

Add some methanol to the mix to drop the temp more effectively. Maybe 80/20 or so. Love the PVC tank idea!

Thanks! So you're saying 80/20 water/methanol or 80/20 methanol/water? My initial plan is to run 50/50.

SPICcnmGT 07-30-09 10:41 AM

Don, I'd run 50/50. Here is a pretty good read on 100% meth & water and 50/50. I'm running about 35% just because that is what the washer fluid I bought has, but if the Shell station will ever get some more meth in stock I'm going to mix it 50/50. Finally got my boost to hold higher, and I'm getting no knock.

BTW, looking good:icon_tup:

Try different mixtures and see what your car likes best. In a preturbo setup (this is how yours is right?) i wouldn't run higher then a 50/50 meth/water ratio. If you don't have a strong ignition setup then straight water would be more difficult to burn and could cause power to drop. Provided you can light your mixture, Even straight water in a preturbo application tends to extend the compressor map's effeciency and make more power at a lower psi, as well as allow more peak boost. I haven't seen many preturbo alcohol/water setups, i was going to test mine with some meth but the water works so well, and costs nothing that i haven't gotten around to it. Also remember the meth will be adding fuel that may need accounted for when tuning the maps to make the most power.

Thanks Chris. Have you taken your car back to the dyno? What is your peak boost? Did you tune for the AI or just added for a safety margin?

dgeesaman 07-31-09 04:43 PM

I like the way you think. Very nice setup.

Yes twin preturbo setup. I might try regular washer fluid (65/35 or whatever the percentage) first tankful and then try 50/50.
Since you feel AI will extend the turbos effeciency, how much boost do you think I can run with the 99 spec twins? I was told anything over 16psi is out of their effeciency range.

Thanks!:)

Dudemaaanownsanrx7 07-31-09 06:00 PM

Hard to say you will just have to turn it up until more power stops being made, or knock/air temps skyrocket. If you start making some crazy power at 20 psi i imagine a lot of other people will start showing up with dual preturbo injection as well. Do you have a fast reacting air temp sensor installed to keep a better eye on air temps?
