Need advice? Use exiting HFS-5 with Summer or Upgrade?
Everyone,
I've had this HFS-5 system (with Summer) that I bought from Brian Kramer (aka, Cosmo Kramer) about 4 years ago. I'm finally getting ready to design my tank and install a WI system, so my question to the group is should I use THIS system or are there advantages to the newer systems that Richard has developed? I'm a little intimidated by the wiring install and I like the ease of install with his newer systems, but quite honestly, I plan to use this mainly as pure water injection for safety margin under high boost. I don't currently track my car, so it's intended for street safety to minimize knock and carbon buildup! Please give me your honest opinions. Thanks! Wow, 78 views and not ONE comment? C'mon.... I'm not showing off my system, I'm asking if this is still the latest and greatest from Richard, or if something he's developed since is simpler and more user friendly. Surely someone MUST have an opinion??

I'm been using the hfs-5 with summer for 3 or 4 years with straight water, with ZERO issues. Since you already have it I would use it. If you have any issues Richard is very helpful in getting it sorted out.

As far wiring goes, be methodical. It can be intimidating but the key is to break it down in sections, use labels, zip ties, and organization to accomplish a clean install. And of course, if you have questions, just call Aquamist. I know their units have quite a bit of options. I ran into this when looking at their DFS v10 system. Just take it slow and one step at a time. |

I agree. The new system has added parameters for a more precise metering of AI. For your needs, the system you have will work fine. Its actually more than you need. For safety, a simple switched system with 300cc is adequate. Its great that you have the kit you do.

I'll comment since I gave this very matter some thought when previously designing a system: Use of the summer is really only necessary if you are doing proportional injection of fuel--alcohol. For water, you can run the system off of the secondary injectors only, anything else just adds unnecessary complexity.
Unless you have very, very large primaries, there is no reason to inject water based on primary injector operation (e.g., light load) at all. |
