My daily driven AI build/dyno thread
well i have decided to make a thread about my build, since i am also going to dyno hopefully this week or the next =D.
Ok i am the proud owner of a 1988 TII, i recently built my motor has about 4 thousand miles on it . S4 rotors, S5 backplate, Street ported, raised the oil pressure, thermal pellet (i noticed after putting the thermal pellet the car tends to smoke a bit on start up which would make sense), S5 LIM, 3rd gen UIM. my turbo is an S372 or known as borgwarner S400sx with a .90 back housing, 4inch downpipe then divides into two 3inch, oil baffle, ebay exhaust manifold divided. 45mm wastegate. The motor is not pinned or nothing of the sort (which i hope i dont regret it later). I decided to go with the Alcohol Injection Systems methanol kit. The 3gallon fuel cell is phenomenal because the pump is built into the 3 gallon tank! fully steel braided, i got it without the progressive controller, im using 2 10gph nozzles. i am activating it at 8psi. (i would like to thank the AI section for the help and wonderful threads) currently running 20psi .15deg timing. 10deg split.. i dont even feel it when it starts spraying =) Hopefully will have a dyno sheet available this week or next. if it passes 450whp i will be satisfied since i tuned it myself or maybe ill be joining the 500 on pump club XD.. Microtech LT10s. matrix mode |
oh and for whoever wants to check out the kit i purchased ill give you guys the link. http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com/index.html .
Oh and i forgot to mention! im running ALS seals, Atkins Solid Corner seals, oem side seals. |
Nice...i see 500hp in your near future

Two M10's! Rock on. That's a lot of alcohol. That's what I use!
Looks promising so far! Good luck with it. Anxious to see it go. B |

Heres an extended version of the video for fun with my other friends cars. The 240sx is running microtech as well, tuned it myself =D

97.19mph trap, that's good. My highest I ever did in the 8th mi was 11 years ago at 97.60 on a 7.60's run. That was when the car was putting 425 to the wheels. Quick car you have! It's only gonna get faster as you put more boost and alcohol in it.

im very confident i can hopefully do better =) there was no way i could hook in that track when i launch, they dont even prep it =\. My plan is 25psi, i use the car everyday and i think anything beyond that point is getting greedy on a DD. it would also depend what the dyno says.

You should come up to County line.

Be careful with the halfshafts on launching.
|
yea lol i broke one just doing a burnout once, car started wheel hoping during the burnout and snap. now i warm up the tires in second gear. works way better
|
BDC how much boost you think i can run safely with these nozzles considering you use them. my turbo flows a max of 96 lbs/m

sorry its been taking a while to get it to the dyno. its been raining almost everyday here making it hard for me to clean up the tune a bit. But i finally got it out two days ago and finished cleaning the tune for an afr range of 10.7-10.9. BUT as i was driving home all of the sudden i smelled oil, thought it was nothing but i pulled over to check something in the computer when all of the sudden the low oil buzzer came on.
Turns out i cracked the FRONT plate right were the oil feed bolt goes. =\. so i have two conclusions 1. cracked because it was not pinned. 2. Detonation occured. im leaning more on the 1st conclusion as of now mostly because of the afrs that i was running along with the timing. as well a S4 rotors. BUT i was thinking what if the alcohol was not being distributed evenly among the rotors. i suppose ill have to wait and see till i take the motor apart for any signs of detonation. If you guys have any input on this feel free. possibly going 3rd gen plates and pinned now. seems like now i regretted not adding the extra dowels XD |
those fc plates break easily. I think is because of the motor mount are on the middle plate. So the load is transfered through the engine twisting it even more. I switched to fd ones with no problem anymore. They mount on the rear and have thicker casting around the dowels.
|
There is an element of luck with the FC plates. I've never cracked an s4 or an s5 plate (front or rear) and I have detonated both. I've never had a dowelled or studded engine on my personal car.
Personally I think you should have run less timing given the type of turbo you have and what you are throwing at it. Lean = dangerous but rich AFR != safe if there is too much. |
