effect of water injection in catalytic converters?
any info or opinions? my high flow smb metal core cat converter melted and I wonder if water injection had anything to do with it.
interesting thing is that it melted at the middle of the core, where it is fixed in place by a steel rod and the rear half flew out of the tailpipe. Upon inspection, the front half, closer to the engine, looked to be in perfect condition! I still took it out and installed the now hollow pipe back... |
water injector is supposed to decrease the exhaust temp. Maybe your ignition was too retarded? or detonating baddly (which i doubt as you would have been looking for an engine by now lol)

egt's should be less with water. not usre how much less but they definetly wouldnt increase.

egt's were barely different than when not using water injection...
I wonder if the water has any chemical effect in the catalytic converter process that causes it to increase the core's temperature to the point of melt down. My core melted right at the middle, where the catalytic process is full on. |
i was reading an article back in the days that they claimed they have seen a decrease of over 100 degrees F

sounds like a problem with the cat's construction
