Where to find a FD shell in QLD
 

hay guys, Im looking to move to Brisbane fairly shortly and will be bringing my FD. It cant be regd over there so I want to find a shell or crashed car that I can put all my bits in.

For me to sell mine here and buy one similar over there I will be loosing SOOOOO much Id rather spend 5-10k getting mine over and on the road.

Any ideas where to look?

Thats not going to be a lot of use is it? cant use the chassis and the tags will be listed as a wreck according to your comment?

I cannot see how you will possibly save money doing what you have proposed

I have a FD that will be 300KW+ atw (going on the dyno in a month....can't wait :icon_tup: ) that has had over 20K spent and a LOT of custom work. However over here they only sell for about 18-20K NZD

Im guessing that a car of the same power/quality to buy over there would be in the 30k+ bracket AUST$.

If it costs me 3K to get mine there then the price of a shell....that seems a lot better then selling and rebuying???

What do you think shells sell for over there?

No idea on your mods , but it may pay to examine the personal import loophole...which some say is the equivalent of a get out of jail card for their Jap imports - whether that applies to NZ, no idea.

Race and rally complete cars with terminal engines can be had for as little as 5k, before the yen appreciation at least. An early model, registrable local delivery complete would be on a multiple of 4 or so times that minimum, late base about 6x and up, I'd say.

Ive heard of this floating around but have no idea were to begin. Is there a number I can call (maybe Aust's equivilant to NZ's Land Transport Safty Authority)?

I had a feeling that law only applied to OZ citizans and they had to of owned the car overseas for 2 years? or am I barking up the complete wrong tree here?

What about a totaly smashed FD? what happenes to cars in oz when they are crashed and "written off" as we call it. I have heard that they can still be repaird if you feel like spending the cash? Or are the logged as wrecks?

no way I'm going into the sub-sections though! Hate dealing with the bureaucratic nightmare, unless absolutely essential for my own purposes.

I believe the time requirements are 12 months ownership with continuous residence in the same location as the car, whether that varies with nationality, I'd expect that would be revealed above, otherwise some of the Japan based members may have some pointers.

Wrecks are normally classified as statutory write-offs...entered on a register, for no future registration and repairable write-offs - usually sold at auction by the insurance companies....seeing some of the bidding on these, you'd have to think the panel beaters got the parts for free.....which may be the case.:lol:

Ok I have actully made some progress with this. I have found out that I fit all the criteria to bring a personal import with me and the people I have spoken to so far think it should be easy getting the go ahead from the govt. Got a good idea of the shipping/insureance/duty/gst/quarantine costs as well

Looking into getting all the info needed for registration in QLD and have got a few numbers for the engineers that will do the inspection so I can get an idea of what the car will need to be certed.

Im thinking this is all going to cost about $6k which i can live with.

lets hope the engineers dont tell me my cars too modified.

feel like I am only being negative in this tread but to be elagable for a personal import you MUST be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Thats actully incorrect. If you are moving from one country to Aust permanently you are more then likly able to bring your car with you. I have to have owned the car in NZ for a period of 1 year without leavig the country and be able to prove that I am moving over to live (bank accounts, address, job etc).

Its not as harsh as I thought but is costly. I'll be looking at about $6k NZD before any mods that are required for the cert and emissions test. The hardest part is going to be passing the emissions test to get a reg in QLD. That bit is going to be a mission!

there are no loopholes...there are legit shipping freight companies that will import and export vehicles in out of a country...You just have to find the shipping source, and pay the money...

No one is arguing there are no shipping companies that will bring a vehicle into Australia. If you bring a vehicle into Australia without import approval, it will likely be crushed.

Best if you enquire first.
