S3 "Finale"

Was reading on Wikipedia (because it is the all knowing source of truth....) that Aus got a S3 Finale first gen RX-7. Does anyone have one? Pics of one? This was the first I'd read about it, but curious about what the car actually had/looked like/came with...

Any info is most welcome!

Thanks,

Dave

IMO it wasn't really anything special. It was basically a stickered run-out edition that was released by Mazda Australia at the very end of the series 3 model run. They were mostly sold in 1986 when the FC was already on showroom floors which made it difficult for Mazda to move the unsold stock. The number sold across Australia is unknown, but reports are there were 150 available. On the other hand, there is a letter from Mazda referring to 1 in 25 in New South Wales, which seems low considering that would have been the biggest market and if there were 150, we probably would have seen more of them over the years.

Available only in Sunrise Red and Space Yellow only (being the colours Mazda Australia had left wasn't able to sell as normal models).

They were essentially a Limited model (the top spec Australian model), but with:
- Finale decals down the side (under the side moulding)
- Blacked out decal on B-pillar
- Finale decal under the MAZDA badge on the rear
- black urethane spoiler, the same as fitted to UK/European models and the lowest Australian spec, the 'Sport'.
- A plate with a build number and "Last of the Legend" - there is a bit of debate where this was originally fitted, but appears to have been fitted to the dash pad.

It didn't come with LSD standard despite some references online to the contrary. This was confirmed by an owner of a Finale. LSD was only an option for the bottom spec "Sport" model.

There's lots of info on AusRotary - Index page.

You'll currently need the Photobucket hotfix plugin to see some of the images, but I'm working on moving all of these images onto our local AusRotary serverer.
