Moving to Australia
 

just wondering what the laws for immigration. I wanna move from the states to australia, because I am a crazy ass car person. (I want to import cars from japan and I want a skyline bad!!) also australia looks like a pretty cool place, from what I can tell racing is HUGE there, and it just seems like the kinda place I wanna live. You guys think it would be possible/plausible/sane???

the only way to bring a car with you into this "anal retard" country is to prove you have owned it personally for over 12-months.

If its a lhd vehicle less than 30 years old, it must be converted to rhd within 12 months or the registration is cancelled.

If its 30 years or older, then a lhd can be permenatly registered for road use. This law was made to help the Mustang & Corvette guys from ruining perfectly good cars to getthe wheel onto the other side.

If you want a Skyline then you will have to buy it through a registered importer here in Oz.

if you want to make a dollar when you come here. Buy a Vette & sell it as a lhd car with legal status for rhd conversion. You will make a few dollars that way. Just dodge the paper work proving you have owned it over 12 months.

Cant afford a late model Vette.? Bring a lhd Series-6 (92-95) RX-7 with you as there are guys that want them for drag racing reasons.

Housing and cars are way dearer than in US , as far as women go if you have the money you can get plenty of honey LOL LOL :inlove:

come on jerry, even though the usa is a country built on immigrants it is still building a huge fence to keep unwanted immigrants out

much the the same for any country that has a decent standard of living, schools, hospitals etc.

you'll find it all on the australian government website, try some googling

having said that it's probably easier than moving to japan

if you really, really must move i hear the canadians are crying out mechanics etc. up where they mine the oil sands. pay is apparently pretty good but there is probably a shortage of women and good roads

The mines over here are having shortages too. Though having a skyline in Aust is like having a bike in china... there are about 3 sellers to every buyer.

haha u want a skyline. they are soooo common here. its like there nice but u get soo sick of seeing them u start to hate them.
but yea importing cars from jap and selling them for more here is a great way to make big dollars. i know a few ppl that do it and make like 3 to 5k profit per car.
yea the car sense is pretty big here somethings happening everyday. pleanty of highway drag opportunites hehe.

the laws on importing cars are getitng tougher n tougher here in aus, theres only a handfull of licensed importers + every1 thats got a import is tryin to sell it cos cops hassle the sh*t out of u if your driving a import...

not only that, theres a new law as of 1st july... drivers under 21 cannot drive v8's, turbo's or high powered v6's.... and most of the people that want fast imports (skylines, supra, rx7 etc etc) are under 21. and not to mention the insurance they have to pay for imports....

S15's and S2000's (which are not imports) and other 4cyl hondas etc r getting popular with younger drivers here.

so if you were planning on making a business out of importing and selling cars i think you should re-consider....

every state is different mate. the cops really aint that bad in queensland i never get hassled at all either do my friends.
and yes even though those laws are coming in dosent mean there wont still be a demand for imports. seriously if u had to drive a shitty car till u were 21 wouldnt the first car u would get after that be the one u wanted =IMPORTS. and a lot of ppl get imports for drag/drift perpose, which means the laws wont apply cause track perposes only.
i still think it is a good business idea. my friends make good money from it. and u dont have to be licensed.

I heard somewhere that they won't let just any yank move in and stay. IIRC, you get to stay 6 months, then you have to leave for 3 or something...or maybe that was New Zealand.

I just think living in Australia would be pretty cool, plus I'm kinda getting sick of all the bullshit here in the states. I'm considering it more and more by the day, actually.

i dont know much about immirgation laws, but im pretty sure their easier if your moving from the states or europe, rather then moving from asia, africa etc

yes u do have to be licensed, unless ur importing 1 or 2 cars + the hassle of getting the cars complainced to australian laws etc....

maybe you dont get hassled cos your driving a FB, which were sold through australian dealers....also depends which state....

theres alot to look into, maybe you should find out more from your friend, but its not as easy as it sounds...

Gaining permanent tatus is about the same as moving from Aus to the US, which I did. You need a job that is on their list of desirables (doctor, other needed professions), a significant bank account or marriage basically. Then you go through the hoops for a couple of years, but check it out at the Aussie embassy or go to their website.

The visitation mentioned is a Visa Waver which allows 3 months visit without a Visa

The aus laws are getting more and more strict by the day on the whole car/racing/modding thing.

Not sure about the U.S but if you get caught here dragging with no license, the police take your car.... and keep it lol, even if its not your car they still take it, well thats melbourne as far as i hear.

Also importing cars from japan (been a family business for a few years now) its an okay business but its vastly growing and more and more importers everyday, its also harder to apply licensing to import for specific cars, and other cars are easy to obtain licenses for (like the skyline - i see one every 20 minutes honestly)

The roads here in melbourne suck too, too many tram lines (Melbourne is known for trams) which make the roads all bumpy, which means if u got a low car say goodbye to your bodykit, if not tram lines.. some suburbs have a lot of potholes.

btw if u come down can u bring me a carbon fibre rx7 bonnet with the grill scoops? and maybe some more rx7 parts for the aussies, and i'll fake marry u to stay here if u donate me a fortune widebody kit too haha, well maybe im not that desperate for the kit.. unless u were some hot blonde babe

FD3S jerry. i'd really reccomend australia. it's pretty laid back over here. as people have said here sometimes the law can be a bitch, and skylines are pretty popular, and cars can be imported etc etc etc yada yada yada blah blah blah...

the law can be a bitch but if you don't drive like a dickhead (in front of cops) you'll be fine. if you want a skyline, buy one. they're popular for a reason (especially R32 GTS-Ts) and that is that they are awesome cars. a mate has a fairly stock one and it handles about a million times better than my gen 1. (not as quick in a straight line though) importing cars is fairly easy. even easier to go through an importer (j-spec etc etc, do a bit of research and you'll find places easily) as this includes compliancing alot of the time (laws say that the car must be stock.. there are other things that nobody really understands :p call up or email an importer to find out what can and cant be done)

alot of the people who have replied on here appear to have no idea despite being from aus..

as far as the turbo & V8 laws go, that's only in NSW atm and it applies to provisional license holders. not sure what that would mean to someone coming from the states though, i assume, however that this will not apply to you as to have enough money to move country i'd say you're older than 21?

how on some australian forums (www.ausrotary.com is a good one if you wanna stay into rotors) and have a look around. do some research on places you'd like to live, let us know what kinda climate you'd prefer etc etc etc..

off subject, if you want skylines Just buy it from canada then register it in the USA.

Might be wrong, but if car is totally registered in canada ( wich 15 years and older are ) you can re register it in the USA.

GTRs start at around 8k and 12-14k for a mint upgrade one
GTs with RB25 go for around 10-12 k
GTs withthe boring rb20 start at around 5-10 k
FDs for 10-15 k
cosmos 10-14 k
pulsar GTir for 6-10
S13s for 5-12

So buy in canada and just register it in the US.
