moving to Aus looking for advice

Hi all,
I was wondering if I could get some advice. I currently live in the UK but am emigrating to Melbourne within the next 6 months.
I have a nice FD RX7.

I have 2 options - to ship it or sell and buy another when I am there.

Can anyone help me here fr example - how much am I looking at to buy another, not sure if it will be cheaper to ship!

thanks
Graham

www.carsales.com.au <-- take a look at what is available. used cars over here do typically cost more than the UK I believe. You might be better off bringing your FD across - I'm not sure how much you have spent on it.

I'm guessing shipping it won't be cheap (it will pretty much have to come from the other side of the world). You will also need to have it complianced and registered for Australian roads - might not be much you need to do. The taxes shouldn't be too much as it's a personal import.

also see http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/i...owtopic=163934 for some examples on the cost..

(i probably shouldn't be directing people away from a mazda/rotary forum to a nissan site - but I used to own a nissan and there's lots of good information there!)

^with an import they will even tax you on the tax you pay. You are looking at around $4-5k to get to the point where you could legally drive it over here.

yeah in oz we are heavy on tarrifs and customs duty. You will likely have to do a compliance as well which is like 5K on top of shipping. your better off taking the nice mods and sending them down here and buying a car and putting them on

Advice ....... Move to QLD not VIC :)

Your not going to get a nice FD in aus for anything under 15k even then...... Import your car its 5k for compliance +tax and shipping, you will have to get a quote for that also if your car has been in a crash don't even try and if it has rust in the body you are going to have a hard time

agree with mpshell
recommend you look hard and have some money on the side incase something goes wrong

pay alittle more for a better one that way you dont have to spend money on fixing the defects

Personally I would bring my own car down, I'm assuming you have spent a bit of cash getting how to your liking? As far as I can tell automotive work is much more expensive in Australia than other parts of the world
