In my optinion when you go 18" and up you normally have to lower the car or it will look like a 4WD :) Even though lowered coilovers like Tien etc handle ok while being very stiff, i like the handling of the stock car. That black front front spolier will get even more miffed as well!

Mine has a pretty similar pattern - I thought it was a problem (it's not...?). I've never been able to find any data in japanese that shows the patterns

Because it was all done below board to avoid re-complying with emissions. I've swapped in a type 1 ECU and boost went back to 10-8-10 so it's definitely Mazda being dodgy (again). They slipped the s7 into OZ by saying it was just another s6.
I remember Motor magazine at the time crying bullshit! My type 2 definately made more power stock than my type 1 did even with a RE-A ecu.

I actually thought his was MB.

100% certain it's black.

BTW the leather front seats were still the only choice in OZ at least as far as 95. I hate them :(

18" or 19" ? Any of you guys tried both? What do you think. Also If went with either....what is the best combo for handling... 18 x8 ? 18 x 8.5 ...??? or 19 x 8....
also what kind rubber....like size...245? 225?

The stock wheels are very light so you're going to hate the way it feels unless you spend a fortune. The ideal option is to get the factory 17's (8 front 8.5 back) but they're bloody hard to get. I've got two of the rears but no importer in QLD can get me the fronts. Have to buy them off the GT-P teams!

Seven Heaven 09-18-04 04:57 PM

Thats what i was thinking...I like the stock wheels and its handling now....changing to 18"s will defin slow the car down....it will be more jumpy.....look like a 4WD like jimS6 said cause i had a set of 18"s on it b4 at a tyre shop...which means it needs to be lowered...then you are tempering with the very good factory setup already....

Why 18"s or 19"s ? cause it looks good....haha...just the look of it...I guess...not being practical.

I won't be changing my factory wheels unless if i find a set that i really want.

My type 1 runs 12-8-10 even when stock. On cold nights 12-8-12. Thats with a brand new autometer guage. Actually putting on a Cat back exhaust and k&n brought it down to 12-10-8-12 (thats what the guage does)

MAVrick 09-18-04 08:16 PM

better be careful....with the stock ecu you will experience full cut if you go much higher

jims6 09-18-04 09:03 PM

mmmm, lucky ive got a Power FC in the back seat ;)

MAVrick 09-18-04 09:27 PM

awesome, can't wait to go cruising with you guys. Looks like I might have a car around new years if all goes to plan. I like the PFC, who tunes yours jim? Have you got the commander too?

Straydog 09-18-04 11:15 PM

Hi there People..

Yr knowledge on the Rx-7 is fantastic...
im leaning to get a S8 rather than the S6 after going thru yr opinions..

ive learnt heaps frm this forum Thanks

does the S8 comes with a factory sunroof...??
n wat is a reasonable price for a S8
RS type is the one to go for...??

Cheers :bigthumb:

MAVrick 09-18-04 11:41 PM

Leather and sunroof on S8 is rare. Sunroof i think was in fact only on special order. For an imported S8 expect to pay $40-42k for a good one. RS is the better choice

rpm_pwr 09-18-04 11:46 PM

Think twice about getting a sunroof car. It really makes the car feel softer on turn in. S8's seem to range from $45k-$60k depending on year / condition.

jims6 09-19-04 10:36 PM

Yeah RS is a good choice. Actually, all the series 8 models are:

2002 Spirit R (Type A / B /C) : Last of the line, limited editions. 280HP, all the fruit. Special interior colouring. TYPE A/B/C determines spec. Type A gets awesome brakes, recaro's etc.

2002 Bathurst R : 280hp, adjustable shocks, carbon inserts, 16" wheels though

99-2001
Type RB : Base 265HP (came auto as well)
Type RB
Special Edition : 265 HP with spoiler, driving lights etc
Type R : 280hp 16" wheels
Type RS : 280hp, bilstiens, 17" wheels, better brakes
Type RZ : 280hp, bilstiens, 17' mesh wheels, better brakes , spiffy interior with carbon inserts, passenger footrest, only in white.

This is a very rough guide off the top of my head (DaiOni!! :) ) There are lots more subtle differences we could go into

Seven Heaven 09-19-04 11:15 PM

Jims6...hows ya car going? when ya getting it back?

jims6 09-20-04 04:13 AM

mmm, hopefully in 2 weeks. Engine is totally stripped already. Probably be at bathurst by that time though. Driving down from QLD to camp there. Damm, wish my GTS25T had cruise.

Straydog 09-20-04 07:19 AM

Thanks for the responses

Im still outside the required budget.... ive got 30k. Defintely not enuff at the moment.
Can afford a S6... its so tempting.

Patience Pays... ppl say

U guys...??

Maestro 09-21-04 09:19 PM

DaiOni 09-21-04 11:22 PM

300 RZ were made in the type vi production run

voona 10-04-04 09:36 AM

What are your takes on ECU? For single Turbo conversion, Microtech or Power FC? Also who can tune them in NSW?

Thanks

DaiOni 10-04-04 08:59 PM

Power FC definitely has the most runs on the board. Plenty of very high hp japanese FDs using them successfully - but I also note that some of the very best cars are running big $$$ motec units.

However, from what I've seen, the majority of australian rotary tuners use microtech - so availability and knowledge base becomes a factor.

voona - you're in newie aren't you?? that would make RX engineering the local crew - and, IIRC, they use microtech

Azagthoth 10-05-04 03:39 AM

anyone here ever had the previlige to drive or own the ultimate rx-7.....a '02 spirit R type A?

i remember theres a limited edition rx-7 in the ps game gran turismo 2. it was a 95 A-spec (mazdaspeed?). anyone has more info on this?

DaiOni,

Yes im from Newcastle, Ive 'heard' bad things about RX Eng... They are prolly really great, but you get spooked when more than 1 person tells you NOT to take your business there.

I also want to retain my AC and Cruise, and im not sure if its possible to do with the Microtech

Any comments are good :)

Thanks Guys

Funny.... I had that picture as my wallpaper, you are rite.... it is the best looking FD i have ever seen....

DaiOni 10-06-04 10:16 AM

voona: I don't know anything solid about RX - only that they are the only (?) rotary specialist in newcastle, and, IIRC, promote microtech

what i said wasn't a recommendation - not to say they are good or bad

Maestro 10-18-04 10:17 PM

For a Street Car PFC don't bother with anything else !
