i just came across this today
Top Lube for E85?
it even comes in different scents !
UPPER CYLINDER LUBRICANTS
seems like this will work much better than the 2stroke oils.

So I was reading an article from last year where some seriously hardcore rotary racers in New Zealand swear by Castrol R30 for methanol and E85 pre-mix fuel use, including long term storage. It seems as though NZ is the only place you can actually purchase Castrol R30 any more. I thought that seemed a bit strange.

Just wondering if there are any updates on this? Are there any other premixes which work well and dont leave the sticky residue?
Someone mentioned that ethanol by nature leaves a sticky residue, is this correct? Or is it definitely the reaction with certain premixes that cause it?

I've had E85 premixed in Pennzoil Marine 2 stroke as well as Lucas semi synthetic. Both have stayed fully suspended since 5/12, however, there is a thin brown layer forming on the bottom. Could be bottle contamination, could be something else. Just throwing it out there.

I mixed Valvoline 2 stroke tc-w3 outboard oil with E85 and it stayed perfectly in suspension for a month until the whole jar evaporated.
But the potential problem was that my whole fuel system was super sticky. I only discovered this when installing a feed collector a month after premixing with this Valvoline with e85. Everything in the tank was extremely tacky. Previously I was using this premix with pump fuel and there was no stickiness.
Not sure if it's a coincidence or the reason, but just before this discovery I was getting some fuel pressure drop on WOT, and wondering if this tackiness may have been the cause somehow...

I'm fairly certain the tar issue is not a premix related phenomenon, it's simply the low quality pump E85 that causes that.
Some pumps/stations will have more tar while others will have less; It seems to be dependent on the E85 mix (since the 15%-50% non-ethanol doesn't have many regulations and doesn't have to be necessarily be fuel at all) and the gas station tank condition.
This does not happen with barreled race E85 fuel. I would think any alcohol compatible premix is acceptable but I primarily use Maxima Castor 927 and Klotz Benol.
I would be glad to be wrong but the tar is documented in other cars that don't even use premix.

no issues using Maxima Castor 927 and Maxima Formula K2. Because i had no issue, I recently switched to cheaper Klotz Techniplate
Full p-port,
Large turbo,
Mechanical Fuel
Driven a decent bit of street miles. Lots of revving/idling, dynoing, testing. And quite a good bit of rips. Its been about 1 year now. I've torn down the fuel system to have injectors cleaned/flowed, and they showed no signs of gumming.
The innards of the mechanical pump were clean as a whistle.
The only sign of gumming is inside the actual intake manifold runners/peripheral intake ports.
After reading, seeing, testing, inspecting, my thought is that the overlap is what causes the gumming. Mixing of exhaust gases with the alcohol, leaving behind a residue. And it doesn't appear to be much of an issue. In fact, I sometimes think it might be beneficial, leaving the internals of the engine coated for protection. At least alot of dirt bike guys claim this!
So far so good, so I'm going to stick to e85 full time!

I emailed Redline with a few premix questions today. Their response:
"Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, our products including the Two Stroke Alcohol Premix don't have a shelf life.
It is still available, we don't currently list it on our site but can be ordered by calling the office, 800-624-7958.
In a rotary engine using alcohol a mix of about 5/8 to ¾ ounce per gallon should be sufficient.
When mixing with gas in a rotary engine the Two Stroke Race Oil is used about 1 ounce per gallon."
