Injector Question - Getting Ready for E85
 

So Ive decided to join the dark side and have been doing a lot of research on prepping my fuel system for E85.

It seems the consensus is ID2000's or the equivalent Bosch EV14 2000's for secondaries. The obvious price difference between the two begs the question if its really worth it springing for the ID's - but that is a different debate...(from what I understand, same exact injectors...better flow matching with ID).

I came across a vendor selling EV14's for pretty cheap ($139 - free shipping. Coupon code "tuned" in case anyone is interested).

My question is if any of you have had experience with this company. I am also wondering if there are any additional parts for these injectors to work with the typical secondary rails for FD (KG, FFE, CJ, ETC) other than the adapter to make them 60mm. I remember reading some posts about using the LIM spacers from Rx7store, is this necessary with a 60mm injector? Sorry for my confusion...Ive read so many posts Ive began to mix myself up.

I also was reading on a Supra forum about sticking probs with ID2000's on E85. The sticking seemed to be caused by an aluminum piece inside the injector that becomes corroded. This spun off into a debate about the corrosive nature of ethanol and the effects it can have on aluminum components. I was planning on making a bracket for my fuel pump out of aluminum, also...aluminum fittings and aluminum fuel rail. I would think this would have became a huge problem by now...nonsense or is there truth to it?

Injector Dynamics is the ONLY way to go...especially if you plan on putting ID2000's in the primary spot. If you use anything else, it won't idle for crap.
I heard about the sticking problem. I start my car at least once a week and I run premix. Those two things combined has enabled me to keep ID injectors in my car for over 2 years with hardly any signs of wear.
I was one of the first people to get a set of these injectors and have tested them extensively. I sent them in to be examined after 2 years of use and they actually were in almost as good of shape as they were when I got them.
They are more money, but you get what you pay for. :nod:

I run 2000 bosch ev14s i got from marren in the primaries, idle and afr's are rock solid with both e85 and with my pump gas tune. I have a different set up than you but My machinist made his own injector bosses but you can buy them as well, the bosses would have been needed if they were purchased from ID.
I wont argue IDs vs the world, just giving my experience. Remember that regardless where you buy that injector the guts are the same so not sure where this IDs will corrode story comes from but ID themselves have an article on their website pointing out that if you get some moisture in your fuel system the injector can become damaged- but again that would be the case with anyone's

I was planning on only upgrading my secondaries to ID2000. I have stock 850s in the primary currently, but I was wondering if they would be ok to run E85 through. Would there be clogging issues? I also have a set of stock 850s bored to 1300 that I was using as secondaries back when my car was running. Would the side feed 1300s primary and ID2000s secondary be suitable? If not I would bite the bullet and get ID1000 or ID2000 for primary.

My engine is stock port, turbo is 1.15ar old school XS Engineering T04X squared, EMS is Haltech PS1000.

I am running fic ev14 950 primary and 4 2150 secondary, no problems after 3 years.

I'm wondering will the stock injectors be ok with e85 or will they gum up?

my advice would be to run a tank or two of E85, then run some regular pump gas for another tank.

Some report no issues with injectors clogging, some do- this is UNIVERSAL issue with all different vehicles not just RX7s and not just ID injectors.
I had mine foul up a bit this summer after picking up a little bit of water at an E85 fuel up outside my normal stations, but I had gotten E85 from there the year prior with no issue. It seems its more of a supply and storage issue and not a vehicle specific issue. We ran pump gas through and my car cleaned right up.

I will run pump gas every few tanks as a precautionary it hurts nothing and can only be viewed as a fuel system maintenance procedure

So is there a certain way E85 needs to be stored? I was planning on filling like five empty 5gal race gas pails and storing them in the garage.

your empty racegas pails should work fine. ideally fill them completely to cut down on water absorption, which will be inconsequential.

i have 15 5 gallon containers filled w the summer E85 blend for my activities before we get back to the summer blend in wisconsin.

as to fuel injectors and E85... for a brief period i had an AI setup using fuel injectors. Pre turbo and elbow. i had run a slightly different AI setup using fuel injectors w 100% meth. zero problems.

for my new setup i used a mix of water and meth and it quickly shut down the injectors (EV14s). much has been written (ID has a great write-up) on water and injectors. i now am a believer... don't let water near your injectors.

i am thinking because i ran methanol thru injectors for 3 years that the E85/clogging MAY have be caused by the type of premix we use rather than the E85.

i would welcome other's input on this.
