e85 20b setup
any suggestions for doing an e85 setup for my 20b? I was thinking 6 1600cc injectors and two supra pumps from rx7.com or do I need to go to a dry sump. this is a total street car so please keep that in mind when looking at fuel pumps. also I do already have the supra pumps so if they will be sufficient i would like to keep it that way.

Exact same setup i'm switching to. I already have an A1000 and i'm replacing my primary 550's with 1600's so that i'll have a total of 6 1600's. I'm hoping with my DIS 4 box its not going to have any issues starting in colder temps.

keep me updated how it works out for you

keep in mind alcohol requires stainless steel fuel components, this is why all OEM cars that are flex fuel have stainless steel fuel lines. I don't think the internals of the supra pump are ss.
Perhaps you can find fuel pumps for a chevrolet truck that is flex fuel that creates decent power, like the Yukon or something along those lines.... that way you don't risk destroying those nice, expensive pumps, or even worse, destroying an engine. |
ethanol is one of the less corrosive alcohols though im not using pure ethanol either so this shoudn't be an issue. Im more concerned if the two will handle the fuel requirements for 6 1600cc injectors.

will i still be able to have a decent idle with 6 1600cc injectors one my 20b or is that just the sacrafice you make. or could i run maybe 1000cc primaries and 2000cc secondaries and keep a good idle and still enough fuel?
|
You will be much happier with the 1000cc/2000cc combo. The 1600's will work but they leave a lot to be desired.

with a good ecu 1700cc will work well.
Pretty much any ecu except powerfc and microtech Id actually go 6 X2200cc injectors. more fuel and better control then 1700cc injectors. Good for over 1000rwhp with a 20b. |
HEY! I've heard good things about microtech! haha, but... I'am still yet to put it in the car we will see i guess. good news though a new e85 station is going in about 5 miles from my house so we are good to go! now if i could just find a 80mm turbo that would be appropriate for my e85 setup power goal is 800whp. I doubt i will ever need it but screw it. I'm using a street port . Any sugestions?
rx72c- isnt it likely that my idle would be awful with injectors that big? if i used 3 1000cc primaries and 3 2000cc secondaries would give 9000cc of fuel. I think i will go small and then go bigger if its not enough. |
3x1000 and 3x2000 wont be enough fuel....
im by all means no pro but according to math you would need about 2450cc/m X 6 to get near the 800hp mark. with the id2000's you would run around 55-60psi fuel pressure to get 2470-2575cc/minute. id call paul yaw and ask him his take on the id2000 for primary injectors, if you are shooting for 800hp you most likely will have enough air flow (provided you have a very large streetport or bigger porting) to make it work...but once again im no pro... |
4X2200cc injectors is enough fuel on a 13b for 650-700hp on e85 on a 20b 6X2200cc injectors will be enough for close to 1000hp.

what is the bsfc for a forced induction engine running e85?
|
i dont think that we can draw any time of linear corelation between a stock 20b and and modded one Im using a larger port aftermarket intercooler higher compression rotors, 4 inch exhaust with no cats (no emissions check here) 70mm turbo with higher boost numbers than even the stock twins. ignition is different less no A/C so less drag on the motor and a different tranny driveshaft rear end axles so different amount of power lost through the drivetrain. i think it would be too many variables to draw any decent conclusion. the power gains as far as a rule of thumb seem to be approxiamtely 10% more when you go from 93 to e85 but ive never seen before and after personally on anything other than piston motors, so even that isnt a fair comparisson most likely. IMO
