dual fuel setup

Twin fuel system. I was curious if anyone has built a system like the one nelson racing used on their 427 tt first gen. the car runs on pump gas till it gets into boost then additional injectors feed C16 or Q16 from a secondary fuel cell into the motor. although this wouldnt be as cheap as e85 it would give an even higher octane rating and it would be a bit more consistent mixture than the varying mixtures of ethanol and gasoline with e85. anythoughts of how to do this on an fd?

Take everything that's in a fuel system and have two of them. Add a fuel cell, pump(s), plumbing, injectors, and a means of controlling of those injectors. The OEMs have been experimenting with this for years (E85 application).

I know that sounds obvious but to implement requires a whole design and testing process. It's not something to enter into lightly.

I believe there is a supra with about 1000 whp that has a twin system. He's got a dual tank fuel cell, one side for pump gas and one side for race gas.

It's got two sets of fuel injectors, one set for each system. When he's driving, he can flip a switch, to prime the system not being used (basically just turns on the fuel pump), and then I think he flips another switch which changes the fuel and timing maps on the ecu and swaps signal to the other injectors at the same time.

Then I think there is another switch that turns the pump that is no longer needed off.

I saw it in the Texas 2K12 video that the supra guys make. You can probably find it on the supra forum with a bit of searching. It was a really clean set up.

Regarding the conrol of the injectors, you can wire the signal in parallel with the normal injectors, you just need the +12v source to be switchable between the pump injectors and the race gas injectors (1 wire). So the actual switching between the 2 injector sets isn't the hard part. (a switch triggering a 5 terminal relay will do the trick)

It's also pretty easy to run all the lines, but making it look clean will be tough. And having 2 tanks isn't cheap.

The biggest hurdle to overcome aside from the cost and space constraints associated of having 2 of everything, is making sure you have an ecu that will allow you to use a switch of some sort to switch between fuel and timing maps on the fly, not all ecu's let you do this.

With the right EMS, you could do this.

just got the ps2000 hopefully that will do it. supposidly it can handle 12 injectors

I got a buddy that has that dual setup on his bimmer. One switch controls everything. It activates the high boost and the pumps for the c16 tank. Stock tank full of pump gas. Plus it activates a 50 shot of nitrous on top of that. Crazy. Was the fastest car in charlotte for a while. Until underground racing started building everything over 1000hp lol. The bmw was built by Active Autoworks.
