471rwhp/300rwtq at 13psi on E85!!!!!!

Made two quick runs on the dyno today to see where I was with the E-85 tune. The AFR's were all over the place.
Going to finish with the tune up in the coming week.

Nice numbers and they say E85 does not work

Crispeed,

How do you like tuning with E85 compared to Race Gas?
Most of the local guys I spoke to about this say E85 does not work. I really don't understand why it would not. So the "Corn Juice" does work well with Rotaries.

How about the cooling properties of E85 compared to Methanol?

Keep updating this thread I am interested in seeing how much power you can make with this stuff that is not suppose to work.

Thanks
Albert

crispeed which car is this that you are working on.

CrackHeadMel 12-20-07 07:13 PM

What did you do fuel system wise? Did you have to go to all 1680's or something similar?

Everything is the same just added two more 1600cc injectors for a total of six now.

jacobcartmill 12-20-07 07:25 PM

why is the tq so low?

Low boost. High rpm torque peak. Tune is way off still. Who knows! :rlaugh:

CrackHeadMel 12-20-07 07:29 PM

rpm?

edit: damn i was beaten

how much advance? :D

jacobcartmill 12-20-07 07:31 PM

interesting..

i've been interested in this E85 stuff lately, but in kentucky we have like 3 E85 pumps in the whole state and they are nowhere near where i live. :(

crispeed are you running the same turbo as before or is it a different one.

Same turbo. Precision PT76 GTS.

Just to add the runs were done in 3rd gear so both power and torque is going to be lower more so with a 4.30 final drive..

btleier 12-20-07 09:28 PM

6 1680s? so you must be super low on duty cycle? I did mine with only 2) 850s and 2) 1680s. when I dynoed mine on the e85.

Well seeing that it maxed 4X1600cc originally I just added two more.
I had to lower the activation point of the staged injectors so as not to lean out on the primaries so it's taking about 30% more fuel presently.

300 rwtq @ 13psi is low??? Last time I checked, I havent seen many pull that torque with that boost. If any at all. This engine is pulling out to 9.5k rpms, so obviously the horsepower should be much higher than the torque, unless the setup was built improperly. Which this was very well done.

You dont have to say anything about the torque figures, they are MORE than good at such a psi.

Jason 12-20-07 10:16 PM

I think he is questioning the torque numbers because they are low for a car making 470 RWHP.

13B-RX3 12-20-07 10:18 PM

Congrats Chris!!! Great numbers so far!!!

Well you know how it goes.
You can basically tell the PSI by the torque made give or take depending on the rpm also.

RPM BOOST
4k 2.6psi
4.5k 5.5psi
5k 10.5psi
5.5k 12.5psi
6k 12.7psi
6.5k 13.0psi
7k 13.1psi
7.5k 13.2psi
8k 13.1psi
8.5k 13.2psi
9k 13.2psi
9.5k 13.3psi

Maybe low compared to a average car making 470rwhp @ 17-18psi. As most Rx-7s on this forum make peak power in the 7-7.5k range. A engine reving to over 9k, and having the breathing abilities to support such rpms, SHOULD have much higher hp than torque. Its a simple mathematical formula.

I find this interesting.... cause I did 424whp @ 18psi on e85, stock motor at a t67. and I wasn't faxed out on 2 850s and 2 1600s. what is the rest of the fuel system look like on the car?

Directfreak 12-20-07 11:34 PM

If I remember correctly, He maxed out the 4 x 1600's when running over 30 PSI on C16. The car did 685rwhp at the time, and later ran with even more boost, but was not re-dynoed. Although it was muuuch faster than before.

Now the setup has added 2 additional injectors to support more fuel, using e85. This new power was only off a wastegate spring, with the boost controller off. It was a shakedown pass to see what its like on e85. So far, it looks very promising.
