Who is currently running one of these?
 

I have been looking in to this because AEM has certified trained tuners. The EMS unit retians the oil metering pump control and most important it retains knock control and retards timing which the PFC lacks for no known reason. :balls:

I've been running the AEM EMS for about 2 years now and I am very satisfied with it. You definitely do need to have a certified tuner working on it though. It is a very complicated but robust engine management system.

i am running one and tuning it myself. Requires a lot of research, but it is a very powerful device. Lots of problems with the basemaps so beware! Things that you think should be right are just not right, so do some research.

However, once you get everything figured out its spectacular :)

I have one that is waiting for me to put it in. I am still breaking my engine in. Did anyone get that AEM guage that shows/monitors multiple channels?

I was beginning to think there wan't enyone with one anymore. Oh, there's no such thing as a certified tuner. I know a polpular tuner in LA county claims he is but if you ask AEM, they do not test nor certify. That's the reason I thought there was myself. You can get certification for gerneral fuel injection tuning from efi101 but there is no specific course for AEM but they do have one for Haltech.

I can't beleive the problems haven't been resolved by now after all these years that it's been out. I can only assume the right tuner knows the bugs and can fix them, since I wouldn't trust the base map to pull it out of the garage.

i am actually working on a lil guide with all the little things that you will need to do to actually get this thing running well. If you have anything you would like to contribute please msg me and ill add it. I have found soooo many stupid little things that make a big differance. The basemap for our cars are just so wrong its not even funny anymore. The more i tune this thing the more things i find fubard.

Hey man a little guide from an expirenced user would be great! I have AEM Serial #0001 and have had it in and out so many times the screw holes are worn out. Last fall I finally sent it out to AEM and had tem go through it with all updates and I bought a new AEM WIDEBAND to replace my DIY Wideband. it. almost 50 degrees outside here now so in a few more weeks I will be ready to again dive in and hit it. any REAL LIFE pointers would be great! I thought I was the only guy around bull headed enough to keep after this thing. IT SHOULD BE FANTASTIC if we can ever get at least a stock map that works and iron out all the little clingons that were built into it.
I am pretty much stock withthe exception of Hose Job and Downpipe but I have lots of goodies I am waiting to install, I won't start modifying until I can baseline the stock motor with the AEM so I have been on hold for awhile. My nearest tuner with AEM knowhow is a flyin weekend kind of thing ands always about two housr drive from my house so I am on my own.

Are you referring to Tri-Point Engineering?

The last time I got my tune done there they told me that they had sent their mechanic to a one week course over at AEM so they could better understand all the EMS has to offer.

They had also told me, back when they pushed the AEM EMS on me, that they actually worked closely with AEM when they designed it.

No the Tuner that claimed to be Certified has a shop in the 562. I don't want to mention his name or place. It's possible what he really means is that he is certified from efi101 in general fuil injection tuning but that's not what he said. He said he was AEM certified when he took the course by AEM but AEM does not test nor give certifications.

Tri-Point never claimed any certifications but I did talk with one of the owners for over 1/2 hour and he said he has had good luck with it. He also mentioned a car with a PFC that switched and the owner got more hp from the AEM. Oh yeah, and it's easier to smog, so if the EGR is controled by the EMS then that would make sense.

unfortunately i wont be able to provide a base map for a stock rx7 since i am running a single turbo setup. I can however provide a guide that will help you setup and tune your own map and i guess i could modify the base map to be at least somewhere in the ball park (at least get you started and driving around). Im still workin on a few things in my own tune right now and then ill start on this guide.


Also, i am by no means a "Certified" aem tuner. just a guy that researches stuff entirely too much for his own good.

Post it up, i would love to see other peoples maps. Is anyone using boost comp besides me? That seems to be the only way to go in my opinion.

I had the original map that came on the disk and I worked on it over a whole summer and could never get it to idle worth a crap. I did get it to where it would run down the road pretty well and then everyonce in a while it would just FLOOD the crap out of itself and I would have to tow home and pull the plugs and clean them and go through the whole cleanout process and then it would start up again.
That was about the time all the known bugs (swapped TP wires and such) started to become known and I got busy at work and ended up selling my house and moving. I sent whe unit back for a onceover and bought the UEGO and I am now ready to get back into it. I don't mind the work and frustrations of tuning without a wheel dyno but I just want to know I am going in the right direction. I have lots of tuning behind me as a certified mechanic in a past life and a member of a factory Porsche GT3 race team for 10 years. I am not looking for monster HP and torque but I would like to run much less restrictive Exhaust and intake parts without leaning the thing to death. I have been driving rotarys since 1982 and love the things.
Glad to see there is a diehard group willing to row the boat.

I run one and I think it is great, needs frequent tuning though. Sometimes the smallest change will require a dyno tune. But I am satisfied with it and have been running it for about 3+ years.
