Series 2 avaliable for FD
 
FSR Motorsport Creations out in Montclair worked with me back a year ago when I started my project. I wanted an advanced ECU that they were good with. The series 2 made sense as they are a dedicated AEM development house. They also know someone who owns an FD and has experience designing circuit boards, so this person made a board that would plug a Series 2 into the stock harness AND fit in the stock enclosure.

The ECU looks like the stock unit except an usb port out. It looks identical to the stock box and same mounting location. They offer the service to have you send them your stock board and put in the new board for ~$1400 and tune. Please give them a call and tell them Josh with the red FD sent you.

The ECU is working beatifully! I'll try to take some pictures later today and post more comparision info between this and various other ECU's (including the series 1). Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Tri-Point Engineering has them as well. Same price. They also have a complete Series II with a jumper harness.

I have tuned a few RX7s so far with series II ECUs. All with very good results. This ECU is for the PFC guy who is tired of the limitations. Better boost control, closed loop fuel control, anti- lag, 2 step rev limiter, CAN and RS232 third party data outputs, ability to add 4 coil and up to 8 more injectors, user fuel trim sw, ignition timing sw, boost trim sw, the list goes on.

I am also going to get this done at FSR. That place is amazing and Ian is a great tuner and a genius with ems's. No need to get technology from when the car was produced, when you can get the latest expandable tech.

Yeah, Ian is absolutely fantastic. They have great tuning service and their work is very solid.

I just installed the Series 2 in my FD as well. Huge improvement over the PFC! I am glad to hear these ECU's are starting to become more popular on the FD as they are really great for the price. I ended up getting mine through Tripoint Engineering. They had the option of chosing a jumper harness or the Series 2 in an OEM enclosure. I went with the jumper harness and they even pre-wired additional connectors with pigtails for all my additional sensors (O2, EGT, oil temp, etc). I got the car up and running last night and will be tuning it this weekend :egrin: I have to say, I have been extremely impressed with Tri-Points support in gettting everything setup :nod::icon_tup:

What were the final power numbers?

Here is a video of a sequential turbo R1, with series II jumper harness, AEM Wideband fail safe, serial gauge and 12pos trim sw. I will post a video of the car on the dyno and real time operation of the trim sw once I'm done with the tuning.

I thought that was just a base pull from the description on the graph. What turbo was used? What type of dyno? What boost level?

+1 I see that you are single turbo and have a v-mount. I have seen your car at FSR and you have a nice engine bay. Was that a base tune or was there a reason for that HP number? Ian keeps things safe and I know that if he sees something he doesnt like he will not push it.

I'm using a CompTurbo CT4-6065 running a custom v-mount and setrab oil coolers. I'm also on a supra fuel pump with CJM rails for primaries and secondaries (ID 750's and ID 2000's). The boost level is on the dyno graph along with the A/F, but we're only running roughly 5 psi and the dyno is a Dynojet 424x LC^2. It's definitely a base tune, and there is definitely more head room to grow the HP numbers. I'll explain more below.

It's just like you've guessed, there are several reasons for that dyno number. The first is that it's a base tune for conservative break in period. After redoing almost everything in my engine bay, new sensors everywhere, new ECU, new cooling setup, etc, I wanted to shake down the car at lower boost for a few weeks and a light track day at 7 stock before upping the power.

The second thing is I'm primarily using the car for road race and my philosophy is if you can't put it to the ground all the time, reliability it has not place on the car. That being said, without major aero or suspension tuning, getting anything more than 350 wrhp is going to be wasted outside a straight and it'll make my torque curve less flat. It also dumps a ton of extra heat into the cooling system and makes things less reliable.

Lastly, my motor is slightly down on compression; barely above the minimum Mazda requirements so we want to walk it into a comfortable spot.
