Problems with everything AEM
Got the AEM EMS v1 and it says my ECU is offline all the time.
Can't install the AEM Serial Datastream gauge becaue it always says theres an unknown error. This is with my new Windows 8.1 laptop. The gauge software installed perfectly fine on my Windows 7 desktop. Anyone can help me out here? |
AEMTuner v3.2 Build 08/05/2013 (**UPDATED 2013-08-05**). This might help, I'm sure Cody will chime in soon too.

Well then I might have an AEM EMS v1 and Datastream for sale in a few days. This sucks since I didn't even get to use it. Should've just went Adaptronic or stayed PFC like everyone told me.

When you are dealing with ECUs that are 10yrs old you will have to deal with software and data comms of the same era. That is one of the best ecus of its time.

I tried to use an older Windows XP laptop with the ECU instead and it still never connects, all it ever says is that its offline. Googled it and it seems connection issues with the ECU are extremely common. Any idea why this is happening? I'm using a FTDI Serial to USB adapter wire that everyone on the AEM and other forums wrote works with the ECU and all the drivers are installed and working properly. I have the conection port as serial and chose the correct COM port.

I have never had any comms issues with any of the Series I AEMs I have worked with. Originally when I tried using a serial to usb adapter I had issues but it was with the adapter and the laptop not the ECU. I got an older laptop with direct RS232 connection and have not had any issues. Are you sure the ECU is powered up? If you are able to see the comms come up in the device manager, You know which COM port you are on, and you are able to select that COM port in the AEMPro drop down menu then you should be good to go. Sometimes PCs assign really high COM ports, like > 16. The AEM does not count that high and you will need to reassign the name of the COM port. If everything is correct you may have issues with the ECU powering up. Does the car run in the ECU? Can you confirm that it is powering up? EB Turbo |
Whenever I Try To Start The Car All It Does Is Make A Weird Buzzing Noise And Nothing Else. When I Use A Chipped Stock Ecu The Car Cranks Up And Fires. Don't Know What To Check To See If The Ecu Is Powered Up.

Most likely there is something wrong with the ECU and it needs to get sent in for repairs. Has the car had any electrical issues? like blowing fuses or intermittent operation? Maybe the ECU was dropped.. you need to call (310)484-2322 ex 1 then 2. That is for tech support. You can tell them your issue and say you want to send the ECU in for inspection.

The car is having an odd problem with certain lights not working but no fuses blowing or anything.
I bought it off of a trusted member on the boards who told me it was working 100% before I paid for it. He has great feedback here so I have no reason to doubt it. Reading up online it seems that intermittent connections are a very common problem with this ECU. |

I get the "Offline" issue when ever I work in AEM Pro offline and then try to connect to the AEM after. I always have to reboot then connect. Kinda annoying but not that big of a deal. I have heard that this is not an issue when a serial to serial connections is used. I am using a USB to Serial adapter with Windows 7.

AEM sucks! I give up. Now I have two EMS v1s, a USB to serial adapter, AND I bought a laptop with serial port specifically to get ecu you work. Even with the laptop connected to the serial port it still shows ecu offline.

You're not the only person to have trouble connecting to a Series1 EMS. The newer AEM Series2 ECU's use USB which is much more compatible with today's laptops, but the RX-7 units didn't sell well enough so AEM never built a Series2 EMS for our cars.
Here's an excerpt from the AEM forum: As you all know, it's not exactly easy to find a laptop with a serial port. Your next option is to use a USB to serial adapter. There are few brands out there that many users have had success with, but that doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Try at your own risk. I/O Gear and Radio Shack adapters usually have good results. The USB to serial adapter will come with a disk, you will need to install the driver onto your laptop for it to recognize the adapter. Once you have installed a driver for your adapter, you will need to setup your AEMPro. In AEMPro, go to ECU > Connection Port > make sure you have 'Serial' selected for the connection port, even if you're using a USB to serial adapter. DO NOT SELECT USB BECAUSE THAT FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK!!! You should be able to see the com port with your adapter connected. You should be able to connect to the EMS using a USB to serial adapter now. Remember the EMS must be powered on (ignition key in the ON position, not ACC) to connect to the laptop. If you still have trouble, try opening the Device Manager in windows and modifying the USB-serial COM port settings. There are two slider bars that can be adjusted for speed or reliability... adjust them a few steps closer to reliability and see if that helps. If you're running Windows7, you might need to run AEMPro in some sort of compatibility mode. I've got an old WindowsXP laptop with a serial port... connects to the ECU just fine. |
Mine runs on windows 7 with no issues using a belkin usb serial adaptor.
|
I'm not using a new laptop with a USB adapter anymore, it won't even connect to this old Windows xp laptop with a serial port that I'm using. And this is 2 separate ecus I'm using.

Has jazzy ever been able to connect to his aem? Does jazzy's car run.

Have you tried different serial cables? If you have 2 ecus and 2 laptops it has to be something you are doing. You said it has a buzzing noise when the key is on. Can you tell where the buzzing is coming from, most likely the omp. If it is the omp, that confirms the ecu is working.
|
I don't understand what it can be that I'm doing. Its a PnP ECU and all you should have to do is plug one side of a serial cable into the laptop and one side of the same serial cable to the ECU. It still doesn't connect and its killing me. And AEM tech support is a joke, they have never answered the phone or the countless messages I've left them.

When you open up aemtuner and select usb does anything show up in the list?
|
I'm using a serial port. I bought an old ass laptop and it has a serial port.

Have you tried a different serial cable?
