car

i just got my car back and dyno tuned, its a 1993 single turbo etc, with AEM EMS and when i start my car the manifolds are glowing red on the idle, the idle is at 2500 rpm and i dont know whats wrong with it? anyone have an idea?

what is your afr and timing at idle? Also, lower your idle to about 1000rpm.

It sounds like you might still have the factory fast-idle cam in the throttle body. It's basically a second throttle stop when the car is cold, and if you haven't adjusted for it in the EMS your car will idle too high after a cold start. You can tune around it, there are some suggestions here:

I haven't disabled my fast idle cam (yet) and my car idles around 1200-1300 when cold. I could probably get it lower if I wanted, but haven't really tried.

Are AEMs popular with the RX7 crowd?

scotty305 05-29-08 04:47 PM

No, AEM isn't the most popular thing for RX7's. The Apex'i Power FC is much more popular for the FD3S. I don't follow the FC scene as closely, but it seems Haltech might be slightly more popular than other brands.

A standalone EFI system isn't going to magically make the car fast and reliable, they will all pretty much run like crap unless they are tuned and calibrated properly to work with your particular setup. Go with what your tuner recommends.

I'm happy with my AEM EMS. Just like scotty said, you can't skimp on the tune.
