AEM ems?

how well does this ecu work on the fd? my local shop can tune one so thats why im thinking about it over the pfc. any comments on it?

FD3SR1 08-05-04 09:35 PM

is that a plug and play system?

FD3SR1 08-05-04 09:53 PM

do i still need a boost controller with the aem?

I use the AEM for the FD3. It is plug and play but has infinate calibration possibilities. Use the base map of the AEM forum and the car starts right up. You then adjust your warm up enrichment and find a good idle. Boost can be controlled with the AEM ECU.

There has been initial problems to get the FDs to run with the AEM but I believe these problems have been solved.

Most FDs run with the Power FC where you can tune fuel and timing. The AEM is a fully programmable ECU which is great but also scary since you have alot more possibilities to screw up.

Hope that helps

I keep seeing people saying they found the aem and the pfc for the same price (1300) but i found the pfc for 1100 and the aem at only 1460. were are you getting theses prices?

mail amber@horsepowerfreak.com and say Claus sent you. Get the package with the wideband which is a good deal. I think the dealers having trouble selling the AEM for the rotary so you can get heavy discounts.

once i hook up the ems how do i go about starting up the car and having it tuned or tuning it my self?

FD3SR1 08-10-04 08:54 PM

also will it work with windows xp?

rexset 08-11-04 12:39 AM

Yes it works on Windows Xp

You plug it to your car ,you have to charge on the EMS Rx7 1800 Cal file, you have to calibrate the TPS and then you can start your engine.

if i was to push over 20 psi woulnt i need a 3 bar map? i know i would with the pfc so i imagine i would need one with the ems right?

z8cw 08-17-04 08:14 PM

Yes,
all the RX7 specifics apply to the Pfc as well as for the AEM.

FD3SR1 08-22-04 12:05 AM

how hard would it be to get a hold on a base map for the hks to4r kit? or any other single setup?

z8cw 08-22-04 12:34 AM

I know of two on the AEM board. Forgot what turbos and mods.

DCrosby 09-20-04 09:39 AM

Any "basemap" no matter for what purpose / turbo is going to be a gamble under boost, even if tuned pig rich, you injectors might be old and not have as much flow as the ones the map was tuned on... do everybody a favor and get the ecu, save it as a paperweight and wait 'till you have the $$ for tuning.... (Speaking from experience)
