I too have a aem box (a 1040 though) left over from a honda project and wondering the same thing. Sorry to resurect an old post

Yes, It will work.
Download the AEM manual for the part number you have, that will tell you the pinouts. Then just splice the wires to the correct place on your harness, and set it up using standard Rx7 software settings.

It can be done it is not very difficult. Where are some mixed up pins in the AEM notes in relation to the OMP operation. If you are not planning in running the OMP I would not worry about it. 1040 means a series I ECU. You should think about getting your hands on a Series II ECU.

Just what I wanted to hear, Thanks guys!

My OMP is removed, (currently running microtech lt8) so the OMP wiring isnt a big deal to me.

I didnt have the ECU in front of me, and I was more concerned about the ignition drivers, Being that honda runs a single coil internally in the distributor amonst other few things. I now realise that these boxes are pretty much generic with the exception of the harness plug that is unique to the OBD1 honda ecu plug. Easy fix as all i need is a obd jumper harness for a honda and pinout the wires to the jumper harness plug. (thats the plan anyhow!)

I wasnt really looking for a aem ems, I just happened to have this from a project that never took off, brand new in the box.

Just curious, what would make me want the series 2 ecu?

Thanks again

I have a series2 pnp for the FD in front of me (on my desk) - why are you using a honda box?

Hardware is essentially the same. The software is a lot better. Plus they will continue to support the Series II ECU's.

I do too. Mine is pretty sweet. AEM doesn't make a Series II PnP. Does yours have jumper harness?

Made the board myself last year.

We've got some in testing. We made the board to fit into the stock ECU housing. We are making some last minute changes before we go to production.

The AEM notes are wrong... We had to figure it out but we got it. Most of it was really straight forward. not saying it was easy by any means. Is yours running?

Are you doing this in-house?

...of course mine works. its in the stock case too (big deal since the other ecus dont fit in the OE mounting).

We make everything in house except the PCB's.

As mentioned earlier, I have a civic drag car as well as my rx7. I'm running hondata s300 on the civic and had the aem as an eventual upgrade. The s300 is working great as it is a Honda based ecu and I'm happy with it as is, so I was exploring the possibility of upgrading my much dated microtech lt8.

My 10AE is a street car and I'm not the happiest with the drivability, fuel milage and lack of inputs. Not having closed loop doesn't help much for this. I'm Just basically looking for better driveability.

The AEM EMS Series I or II will solve all of your issues my friend.

I am installing my 1050 and was going to order a hall effect trigger kit, can aem read the 60-2 wheel?

EB Turbo 10-01-12 06:48 PM

If the trigger kit is designed for the RX-7 it should come with setup instructions for the AEM. I believe the 60-2 will work but, I have never set one up myself.

Yes, it most certainly can. My Audi uses a 60-2 wheel and it works quite fine. go to AEM Forums and search in the users' tunes area and you should find several of my configuration files. DL, open in AEMPro and study the setup values.

I'm running a 30-1100 box on my FC and just used the wizard to set cam/crank to a FD. I run ls1 coils, supra coolant temp sensor and gm air temp sensor. Started right up the wizard tool is awesome.
