Should I go Adaptronic now?
 

Hi All,

I’m looking for some guidance on moving to an Adaptonic ECU. My car is an 87’ Turbo II which is currently stock. I am thinking of performing the following modifications early this coming spring:

-Adaptronic e440d ECU
-Full Exhaust
-Fuel pump
-Fuel pressure regulator
-Injectors
-wideband, boost, and temp gauges to monitor things

I realize an exhaust does not necessarily warrant the step up to a standalone system. My thinking is that by switching to the Adaptronic now with a slightly modified and already running engine, I can learn the tuning software more easily. This would give me the benefit of working with a car I know already runs and performs as it should without having to worry about all the factors that come with an entire overhaul.

Within the next year or two I will hopefully be going with a larger turbo and all the supporting mods that come with that. By already having the Adaptonic wired in and being familiar with the software wouldn’t my switch to larger turbo be a lot easier?

-side question: Would the short loom for the e440d be the correct loom if I were to mount the ECU in the stock location? Any better places to mount the ECU in a car will full interior?

-side question 2: I've seen that the software for Adaptonic tuning can be run on several versions of Windows. I am currently looking at new laptop options to use solely as a tuning computer. Is Windows 7 the general consensus on what this software runs best on?

I did what you did. I put an Adaptronic on my N/A 13B in my B2200, figure I could learn to tune it on N/A before I go turbo. I am actually on the fence now about going turbo, got way more throttle responce and feels more powerful, and I like the idea that I can put anything on the engine now and be able to properly support it with the ecu.

I used the long loom and it was long enough for me. My ECU is in the stock B2200 location, behind the passenger side kick panel.

Nice! Yea having it there to learn and having room to grow is exatly what I am trying to do. There would be so much less to figure out/worry about at the time of installing the new manifold, turbo, injectors, intercooler, etc etc. When the time comes upgrade the hardware and adjust the software. done.

You will want to get the new M2000, as it supersedes the E440D.

Adaptronic Modular M2000 ECU

You will want a long harness, the short is only for wiring into an existing harness.

You will also want a fuel pressure sensor.

Any windows 7 or newer is fine.
