Load adjustment for headlights
 
Which electrical load assist is tied to the headlights? I need a little more rpm assist when they are on.

I'm assuming you have a plug and play model.
Look at the digital inputs, and see which electrical loads are set. Headlights are set up as "Electrical Load X (act hi)" Regular digital inputs should be "Act Low"
Then go to the idle tab and increase the "Extra Effort for Elec Load X" this will bump up the Idle Solenoid one extra step.

If you are in closed loop bump it up on the left hand side based off of RPM underneath the "Additional Target RPM"

Scruggyj, just to add, you will also need to check the digital input flags 1-8 if one changes state (e.g. turns green of turns off from green) when you turn the headlights ON/OFF.

Once you've found one, you'll now know which to change to an Electrical Load type as explained by Silentblu above. If there is none, then it needs to be wired.

Thanks guys.

It was digital input #8.

I set it as electrical load 3 and changed it to act hi.

Under idle control I had extra effort for elec load 3 set to a value of 3.

I will have to test this to see how it reacts.

I think switching the input #8 for the headlights to active high helped the most.

Are the cooling fans also tied in to electical load 3? Is there a way to tell.

Once I set my headlights to electrical load 3 and then bumped up assist the rpms were jumping quite a bit while sitting still. I was assuming this was due to the fans being on.

I bumped the assist back down and the issue is not quite as bad now.

However, I would like to know how the load is impacted or can be adjusted when the fans kick on.

Hi Scruggyj,

This is how we normally do a thermofan idle-up so you don't have to wire a digital input.

Can you email me a log of that idle hunting / jumping + your current ECU file please? Too high idle might cause the idle control to hunt, but I can tell for certain when we check the files.

Thanks Mark. That is how mine is set up. I was just curious if there was any way to adjust just how much assist was being provided and if that could be adjusted. I guess not.

Hi Scruggyj,

There is! And you tweak that in the Idle Settings Tab (screenshot attached).

In this example, say the car is at 80°C coolant temp, after you've started the car the idle effort will be at 60 + 20 = 80, and the 20 will decay to 0 in 15 seconds.

When you turn the A/C ON, the idle effort will be 60 (base) + 10 (A/C) = 70
When you turn the A/C ON, and the Elec Load 1 is enabled (say theremofan), the idle effort will be 60 (base) + 10 (A/C) + 5 (EL1) = 75
When you turn the A/C ON, and Elec Load 1 and 2 is enabled, the idle effort will be 60 (base) + 10 (A/C) + 5 (EL1) + 5 (EL2) = 80
When you have two things that trigger Elec Load 1 (say headlamps + brake lamps) at the same time, then only an additional effort of 5 will be added.

Thanks Mark,

I think my issue is I had both my headlights (dig input 8) and my fans (dig input 11) both tied to EL3. I need to move one to EL1 and see how they behave independently.

I moved the headlights (digital input 8) to EL1 and set it act low. Seems to be working as intended now. Thanks for the help!
