Zero Boost Problem
Hi Guys,
I was driving to work this morning when the car did a laud pop (backfire) during acceleration at 2nd gear at about 3000 RPM. Then I noticed that my boost gauge just reads zero boost when I step on the gas. The car still runs but no boost. Can anybody help me diagnose this problem? Is it still alright to drive the car home? TIA |
Did you check under the hood? If you say that the car drives normal and pulls like it should then there should be no problem. What is your vaccum? I am guessing that the vaccum line popped off, but if that happened your idle would be higher.
Find out what the vaccum is, idle, and check under the hood for the boost gauge line to see if its still hooked up. |
check your wastegate actuator rod.Located on the side of the turbo manifold. If your c clip came off the rod will slide off keeping the wastegate open all the time.therefore no boost or very little if any. is your exhaust note also louder than usual? thats a good indicator.

Zero Boost Problem
Yes, I did a quick check under the hood after I parked the car at work. I didn't see any loose vacuum lines. I will check on the wastegate actuator rod and vacuum line more closer when I get home. Is it Ok to drive the car home?
Thanks for the replies. |

Zero Boost Problem - Solved
Hi Guys,
I looked under the hood again during lunch time and found that the lower intercooler pipe got disconnected from the intercooler. Sorry, it was the last place I looked at since I'm used to my Eclipse GSX. Once an intake pipe got disconnected in a GSX, the engine will stall. I'm just glad the RX7 works differently. Thanks for all the responses. |
map cars like ours will run without a closed intake system :) you cant even have the bov vent on some maf cars without them stalling/sputtering :D

I thought you were bragging about having "zero boost problems", which is uncommon with old FDs!
