Your thoughts on a custom dual tip titanium exhaust
 

I haven't seen any around, mainly just the "N1" style fart can. Just want to pick your brains and hear your thoughts about a custom dual tip titanium exhaust. Some thing like my CAD design below. Ive been learning to tig weld, and I know titanium is difficult to weld, but I'm thinking to try it out some time soon.

Like make the actual muffler portion, or just the piping and tips? Only problem with experimenting with welding Ti is the extreme cost of even the raw materials...I would venture a guess it would probably be cheaper, faster, and much easier to just purchase one of the pre-fabbed cat backs that are out there.

But with that said, try it out if you got the time and money. Maybe you will be starting a group buy soon, who knows.

I'm talking about a full cat back, everything Ti... there are a few companies on eBay selling Ti sheets and such and the prices aren't horrible. The problem I have with whats out there is they aren't "stealthy". Group buy... haha lets not get ahead of our selfs.

i think i would look good and sound good also. but there is a lot to come into play the proper bends the welding the R&D time and money. but if you could pull it off i might be interested.

Its definitely a big project, I was thinking maybe build it first in steel since its much cheaper, and to get the process down. I'm not thinking to bend the Ti physically, it seems a popular theme to making bends with Ti exhaust is to cut the tube a various angles and weld them like the pic.

Are you going to have different size tips? The N1 duals and the old PFS duals for example have different tip sizes. That might would be a big selling factor if so, not everyone likes big or small tips.

that could definitely be an option, I like the look of the RB duals and they use 3" tips and thats what i put in my design.

i think it is a great ideal , but it better if u can make , make one like th RB dual.

The old PFS duals looked like stock as well. Buddy of mine still runs his, and they look/sound great.

exactly, you know I looked at the muffler by its self and they want ~$950 for it! thats just insane. but thats the look I'm going for.

if you want an anodized tip there are right ups out there about how to do it.
I say go for it, I wouldn't mind something like this either, interested in making more than one?

I believe the "burnt Tips" come from heating the metal with a torch, If everything works out, then I would definitely be interested in sharing some rotary love haha

$950 is rather cheap for a titanium exhaust, discontinued ti exhausts from re-amemiya and feed were $2000+ and the arc was $3000+.

but this is merely the name/hype/demand hiking up the price.
i strongly disagree with $3000.00 for an exhaust of that semi low caliber.


in regards to welding the Ti metals.. be sure to run your gas inside the tubing as well if you're not going to weld it in an enclosed container.

kind of, it has to do with the chemical reaction of the metal and another element when a current is ran through it, there are a few different methods.

$950 was just the universal muffler, no piping... and thats too much imo.

I was researching how to convert a blast cabinet, but not sure if i want to go that route, extra $$$ I'll probably end up capping the ends of the tubing and running the argon through it

so did u find out what the exactly cost for the exhaust ?

I have not, but looking at some rough prices should be around $300-400 in materials

just ordered some steel to create a mock-up

I understand the price is high, but not as high compared to other cars. For example, the nsx has titanium exhausts ranging from 5k to 10k and I believe the GTR has a titanium exhaust for $24,000 (not a typo). You have to pay to play.

oh I know, And the people that can afford those cars can afford their parts too. I just think I can do it for less and make something that no one offers.
