Are you running street, half bridge, full bridge ports
 

I'm in the middle of my build and I'm trying to debate on what I should get. My FD is going to be a fun weekend/show car and not a daily driver.

My question is what port job did you go with and why did you decide on that size? What are the benefits of going with half/full bridge and what are the sacrifices you make.

I have a streetport and am pretty happy with it. If I were you I would just go with an aggressive streetport for your setup, no need for a half or full bridge.

Not really sure on advantages and disadvantages but if and when my engine goes, im going for a half bridge.

I would assume more power. Plus it sounds mean as hell at idle lol

I went half bridge and regreted it, ended up selling the car because i couldnt afford another engine. I loved the street port though.

Interesting thread, but not that informative, as most of these are opinion based. That is OK though since he asks for opinion.

I have an FD with a street port that I like, still good low end, I have ridden in and FD that has a more aggressive street port and I think that most are right as you increase the overlap you move the power band up, however you can overdo it on a turbo so get someone who knows what they are doing.

full bridge because going half is useless.

I personally think that it all depends on what you want out of the engine.

If you are going to drive the car around from time to time and not really race the crap out of it except some highway pulls then you should stay stock or street port for a little more kick.

If you want to drag race the car all out then bridge port would an option although there are guys making awesome numbers on street port.

I drag raced a 12a full bridge in the streets years ago and that was just it drag racing. There was no way to enjoy nice weekend rides on that thing.

Honestly it all depends on what you want.You will get so many opinion here that your head will spin.
In my opinion I would brake it down like this.

1.Daily driver - stock or street port
2.street racing- street port or race port
3.street/drag strip-race port or half brige
4. full drag racing-I would ask the big boys about that.

Opinion? I don't know about that. If any guys in the USA are going to know/debate the merits of porting besides a company like Racing Beat, it's going to be those posters.

Thanks guys, I'm going to stay with a street port job. I don't need to break the dyno charts, just something with some good power that is streetable.

If you arent shooting for 500+ leave it stock or very mild. Car idles better, runs smoother and is just less of a headache. If you have a great tuner near by, dont mind the idle being a little higher possibly choppy, and have a huge turbo go with a large streetport or whatever you want.

The correct turbo setup will often give you whatever peformance you want on a the stock ports and be more streetable around town. However, some people like to drive around a "race car" on the street. Personally, I like the car to be quiet, not smoke, and work correctly. Obviously it can be achieved with a street port or larger ports but most people dont put the time into tuning to see the benefits.

Large street port, I like it. Mine is a weekend car.

I was full bridge for a while and to tell you the truth its absolutely pointless unless your drag racing the car or want to make a million hp. If you have a bridge just for the sound, well thats the dumbest thing you could possibly do cause i like the sound for about a week, then it just got annoying. Couldnt talk to people in the car/ listen to the radio, and everyone at the stoplights looks at you like your a complete retard. large or standard streetport ftw if you still want to make a good amount of hp and love driving the car. I'm not one of those guys that complains about how loud the car is cause i run a 4in exhaust with just a 18in resonator, but the bridge was just too ridiculous.

guess its just because u guys are old timers ;) haha jk jk nah i have a resonator..its still loud but its not to the point where its unbareable and cant speak in the car.. the noise is really just preferences cuz ive been in cars with just exhausts which are loudere then my hbp w resonator..

hbp was stupid for my use but i thought it was cool and add uniquness to the car... idk i still like mine and i dd it =)

I run stock ports or a small street port. A bridge is not worth the noise/gas mileage issues in my opinion. I like a car that idles quiet (around 900rpms) sounds stock but runs hard. I run the greddy exhaust with the resonator and also a silencer in the muffler, you would not believe how quiet it is. When you want to play around you take the silencer out and have some fun.

I think the OP should really take the above quote in consideration. This is one of the guys who have been putting down good numbers(drag strip) for years. The fastest full chassis fd in the country is on a stock ported engine:dunno:

I think I'm going to go with a mild streetport. Although it is a weekend car, from the research I've been doing it really does kill your idle/MPG and the FD already only gets around 200 miles a tank driving conservatively around the city/highway. I'll keep you guys updated in my build thread.

Personally, I would just go with a stock port engine. When or if it fails, just plug in another stock port engine and move on. Treat them like disposable parts.

not going against what everyone says but your claims are false. before i went hbp i got about 300+ mi to the tank... with the hbp running really rich i get 200 mpg so "FD already only gets around 200 miles a tank driving conservatively around the city/highway" is incorrect
