yet another different idle problem

hey every1,
I did the full NS conversion, and now my idle is fucked. It will idle normally around 1800rpms now, which i know can be adjusted with the air screw on the TB....but whenever i turn on my a/c or my lights, the idle immediately jumps to 2200 and hunts between 2000 and 2500. It will fall to 2000, then slowly climb to 2500 and once it hits 2500, it falls to 2k again and starts over. Does anybody know what on earth would cause this???

NOBODY knows?!

You having a high idle problem? Or Idle problem with the A/C on? Obviously Idle is high... but what are you trying to fix?

teamstealth 07-12-03 01:11 AM

both of those are problems..i can fix the high 1800rpm idle with the air screw...but i have no idea why it jumps to 2000 and bounces to 2500 whenever i turn on the a/c or the lights. How do i fix that one?

I think you are going to have to do some research on your own for this one. But I dont know if you already know or not that there are switches that automatically compensate for parasitic loads on the engine. (power steering, AC, Electrical loads. Also check your map sensor hose and harness. I do think that you may want to search on the Idle Speed Control Motor. I know many people who have had ban ones causing this problem. One guy took his out through it on the ground picked it up and reinstalled it and it worked fine. I wouldn't recomend that though. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

yeah i knew the car compensated...but before it would drop about 75-100rpms...not fly up 750. So i have no idea. I'm going to pull of the UIM and get some of that elect. contact cleaner and see if that helps any. Cuz it would almost have to be a elect. problem with a sensor or a f*cked up reading or faulty solenoid.

it could be a combination of things. Mine idled around 1500-2000 rpm and fluctuated. With the lights on it droped to about 1100 rpm and stayed steady. My problem was an intake manifold gasket. Pick the easy things to elimate them. It took me 4 months to find my problem of weekend elimination rounds.

teamstealth 07-12-03 02:49 PM

yeah i double checked the manifold gaskets and re-torqued them, along with all the IC piping, TB elbow, etc etc...i think one of the problems is i blocked off the vac. nipples with silicone-injected hoses, so im gonna replace those with real nipple covers.
