Yes another "please confirm my worst fears have come true" thread
So I hit a boost spike as the second turbo came on (14psi) in about -5 degrees celsius... im thinking the huge amount of ice cold pressurized air was too much for my fuel system to keep up with....
Im thinking I blew a corner seal... the car will start right up and will rev OK... but idle is really fucky... and the vaccume meter is bouncing up to 14 or so then back down to 16 in relation to engine rotation... Needless to say Im pretty upset right now... :S |
The only validation you are going to get is by performing a compression test.

is corner seal failure common? |

why does everyone make these threads before they get a compression test? if youre getting one tomorrow, why not wait until you get the results to make a thread about it?
|
Corner and side seals do not break on street cars. You either chipped or broke an apex seal, if you did anything.

thx guys,
Im confused now, but Ill know tomarrow... |
just pop out one of your spark plugs and listen... no need to buy a compression tester. u should hear a chhh chhh chhh from a good rotor and chhh pff pff from a bad one.

I want to get a proper reading just so I know anyways. |
[QUOTE=RotaryResurrection;7545211] if you did anything. [QUOTE]
I never thought another man could make me smile like that lol |
I'm just waiting for the rx7club map sensor crew to post, "ah, check your MAP SENSOR HOSE, YO! That shit pops off mad easy son...and if it does your car will run like it is blown! ". :ugh2:

what fuel setup were you runing? stock? with or withought boost controller?

looks like you have JDM type R. I bought 95 JDM type R as well. how many miles did your engine have when you bought it and how many did have you put on it since?
it now had about 60600km |

thats not much at all. makes me scared. mine has 60 000 kilometers already. i will install profec B boost controller for sure to be safe and run 7psi at low boost setting |

BTW the boost controller won't prevent boost spiking on stock twins from what I've read. Just go through the revs and watch the boost gauge... if its not doing anything then I wouldnt worry. mine would spike when the second turbo came on almost every time that is what has caused this **I think** from what Ive heard about JDM FDs Id be more concerned about coolant seal failure... A couple Ive heard of have blown coolant seals, and the previous owners just traded them in instead of getting them repaired. and thus the FDs would end up in the export yard. |

On a side note Kevin, I've seen lots of sideseals and corner seals broken on street cars.. |
what causes boost spikes are stock wastegates, or at least it's one of the main causes. Rx-7s are notorious for boost creep people... you should get your wastegates ported

I understood that was only a concern if running a very low-restriction exhaust. Ohh and I've never seen boost creep, just spike. |

Good luck on the compression test. |

Coolant seals in the engine are damadged mostly by overheating no matter its rotary or piston. |
