Yellow FD on the bay...price TOO low?
I owned an FD over 10 years ago in high school, and I'm ready to jump back in. My R1 is sold, and I have money burning a hole in my pocket. I came across a great looking yellow one on the bay, but the price seems oddly low. Can you take a look and let me know what you guys think...

It is not an original CYM, look at the black engine bay. It is also not an R1, if that is what you are looking for.
I wouldn't believe a single word from the seller about the mileage unless it's verified. Fishy
Yea, it seemed super fishy to me, especially with the mileage being off. I wasn't too particularly worried about it not being a gen CYM, because I understand modded cars get painted, especially when they are 10+ years old, but it just seems a little too good to be true.
I think owning/driving a vehicle that's all molded is a bad idea... that should only be done for pure show cars IMO
tan on yellow...do not want
Nope pass on that without a compression test and a visual inspection. In this market there are plenty for sale.
Fake CYM, more than likely bullshit mileage, ugly interior and unknown compression. RUN away from this!
The userid for the seller is "himniracing" - he's on the forum, I know he's been around a LONG time. I would tend to believe him and his representation of the car.
Car looks like it was probably modified and many things put back to stock - you typically won't see a pulley kit and a stock airbox. But, looks like a decent car if you're into bodykits. Dale |
see it. test it. and if you like it, go for it. You are going to change stuff anyways...
a lot of people park their cars and do not drive it... they starts mods and dont drive it... then when they are done, they simply sell it. I got my FD with 27k original miles this year. it was stock. but in the other hand, I have a friend that has a 2004 350z with 10k miles on it because he has been modding it little by little in his garage and he is still not done... |
Price doesn't seem oddly low to me at all. That's what I paid for mine a couple of months ago and it was in pretty much perfect shape, albeit it was listed at $13k. The car doesn't really have that much done to it for the seller to be asking too much more if he wants a relatively quick sell.
Just follow the same procedure as any other car you would be buying, and try to find if the guy is in fact on this forum and see what he's all about. If you like the way it looks and it's in good running conditions, then get go for it. |
Have it checked out by a reputable rotary shop. If it checks out, go see it. If you like it, buy it. You can't buy a car based on photos, and a sellers description.
Well, it is not an original CYM. Everybody can see that. But that does not mean it wasn't decently redone, modified. Half the cars on this forum have not been redone to that quality so it should not be seen as a disgrace.
Personally, I'd want to do something about the tan carpet and door panels. If I was buying, I'd want to get some sense of the mechanical shape it is in, check the fit and finish of the body work up close and then make my decision from there. I would not reject it out right by any means. |
For everything he has done to it, the price does seem too good to be true. I bought mine for the same price he's selling his for, and mine had zero mods when I bought it, and lots of little problems here and there. I would request the seller test drive the car with you inside of it to see how it drives. Check the boost levels, check to see if it smokes on startup, check for leaks, and for that price, i'd strongly recommend an engine compression check as well. If it passes all of those tests, then i'd say got for it.
unless you can go to see it drive it do a compression test and get a guarantee in writing after you have looked at the owners assets to make sure if you sue him you can get something other than that I wouldnt do it
Honestly I dont see why the price would be too good to be true? Look at the tacky ebay seats and tan interior. The molded body looks horrendous. The seller says the fender line is allready cracking. If you ever need to take off your bumper or fenders its impossible. Alot of people like and dislike running non sequential so you should drive one before you commit. If you read through the list of mods its actually not that much. The greddy pulley kit is garbage and will let your water pump slip unless you run an idler pulley in place of the air pump. Theres way cleaner FD's dont do it!

It is good to know it is in 'great conduction'. Handy in lightning storms and all....
