WTF? Battery terminals spark when reconnecting??

I just plugged up a power FC and when I go to try and reconnect the battery, the terminals spark whenever I touch the wires to them...

I can have the positive hooked up, but as soon as I go to put the negative one on it sparks everywhere, and vice versa

wtf is going on??

If it didn't spark there would be a problem.

A little sparking should be fine. A lot of sparking and smoke/melting posts means that you either have the terminals on backwards or something is shorting along the power harness....from my experience that is...

Yes, I should have worded that differently. A little is fine, that just shows the circuit is being completed and is live. A lot though isn't good.

It's a lot... it's almost welding the cable to the terminal if I hold it there long enough

What could be shorting and how do I find it/fix it? this sucks..

you have a draw on the system, that is what's causing the sparking.

Look for any bare wire off of the power harness...trace it back to the starter and the alt....see if there's anything touching bare metal where it shouldn't.

its normal, dont worry buddy!

thanks for the help guys, I went back and combed over all the wires and apparently one was grounded in the wrong place, and luckily that fixed it... I was beginning to panic too...

Unfortunately I have a new problem now, if anyone could take a look

You were a bit lucky...

Glad you didn't ruin anything - always a possibility when you have a short.
