wow... pop some flames!!!

weird thing happen on the way home last night... i was driving home minding on my own bisnis when this new Subaru came up to my tail asking for a race. He stayed behind me and kept on giving me the high beam so i put in second (auto) and punched it. I change to third and fourth (D), hit the brake and change to third again as there was a car blocking the way... as i downshift i heard a loud POP, and a second POP and could see FLAMES from the reflections on my rear view mirror... the guy even backed off!! hahaha

Im a bit worried tho as it is only wiv a drop in filter, downpipe, gutted cat, c.b. and stock ECU. Although it sounded very cool and LOUD, im worried that this isnt normal...

the a/f meter shows im running very rich. Dont know how accurate this is... but is it normal to have popin sound and flames with only the above mods??

Snook 10-10-03 12:34 PM

yeah that's very normal but I don't suggest shifting the auto manually and if you are going to downshift make sure you put it in neutral first and rev it up so it doesn't stress the trans when you go into a lower gear. You don't need to use your transmission(especially an auto) to stop that's what you have brakes for.

yeah true... im used to drive like this when im racing, other than that i just use "D" drive. am still saving money to do an auto --> manual swap. until then ill use all the gears if necessary... ;)

normal eh... KEWL... got to ask my fren to drive behind me and record me flames... hehehe

So on your stock ECU you are running an aftermarket intake, downpipe and a straight through exhaust? Do you have a boost controller?

I did that just fine on 14psi.

And many people have popped motors doing that. You got lucky.

That't be your reason for the flames right there. Gutted cat and a high-flowing exhuast will do that.

DCrosby 10-12-03 12:18 AM

Especially if you're running rich :D

FeatherTheClutch 10-12-03 02:43 AM

HAHA my brother used to shift like that in his honda (yucky) before he got it swaped to manual then got smart and sold it!!!! (appluads)

im running a drop in filter, hks downpipe, gutted cats and hks super drager to be precise...

im not boosting more than 0.5 bar as i dont have the pill(s) that goes to the wastegate/turbo precontrol... will do that when i have time...

but to be safe, ill get some manual boost controller... tanx ;)

FeatherTheClutch: are you suggesting that i sell me car!?! Dont thinks so dude... :D hehe

Oh by the way... how come im running rich when i have the 3 mode rule?? shouldnt it be leaner after these mods??
