Would you guys pay $16k for FD with...

47k mi; 8k mi on rebuild from OakTree Mazda (for those in the bay area). Good condition 93' Touring w/ intercooler, intake, & exhaust upgrades?

NOTE: upgrades are not top brands.

sounds like a okay deal. make sure the paint is in good condition. i say 13K would be a good deal.

btardell 03-26-02 05:34 PM

Really. That low huh? I've seen them selling for that price with over 100k miles on them, but with low miles?? I haven't seen any 93' models in the bay for under $16k. I would be interested to know what people have been paying in the bay area.

Is that dealership in Redwood city ?!? If it is ...I bought my 7 there a few years back !! Besure to check all of the coolant hoses too....When I first bought my 7 that was the first to go........

alwan16 03-26-02 05:54 PM

16k sounds ok for a 93 in good condition for that. for a 94 i'd say that's a good deal if everything checks out. on another note....my fd was originally sold at oak tree :)

artguy 03-26-02 05:56 PM

check the compression...if its good...and the turbos dont have any oil residue...Id go for it.

you could pay as much as 18 out here for a car like that.

If you can have a compression test done, on the test drive check the boost pattern (if a boost gauge is installed), Other then that sounds like a killer deal.

As a side note, if you get it be sure to change the oil, coolant, plugs and fuel filter (do this regardless of what previous owner says). If I had done that it would of saved me a good 500$ down the road.

How would have changing the oil, coolant, plugs and fuel filter save you $500?

Thanks for the input. I bought it from a private party. It is going to Rick's tomorrow. Need rotor resurface or replace, turbos are not boosting as consistent as I would like, and having them do the 50k service.

I'm crossing my fingers. What is the worst case scenario for having a tuner replace all the vacuum hoses $$?

legendr35 03-26-02 06:25 PM

I was quoted $180 using silicone hoses

Good luck at Ricks. I have heard all good things about them. Spend some good money there to have all the things checked out and fixed up. If the motor was blown before, there must be a reason and I doubt that's something that a dealer knows how to fix. I hope you didn't spend $16k on it. I bought my 94 for $17 two years ago w/ 72k mi. Figure a 93 w/ low mi should be $14.5k, especially if it's not mechanically perfect as you mentioned.

I paid $20k for my FD. 94 silver touring, 31k miles, bone stock, mint cond. I was very happy with the find and gladly paid the guy exactly what he was asking because I knew I wouldnt find another one in these parts in that kind of shape & miles.

That was 60 days ago, I've been busy since!
