won't start..buzzing under maniflod

I went on a trip over the week end to pick up an old civic for a daily driver. today I go to start my car, it turns over but doesn't start. I change the plugs, turn the key and still no start... i notice that there is a buzz coming from under the intake maniflod after I crank with the key left in the on position. never noticed this befor. somthing with the ignition coils? Fuel? any ideas would help. All fuses look good . I have a pfc ecu,air pump removed, intake, exhust, fuel pump, underdrive pullies, stock engine 103,000miles.

well, at least now I have the civic to drive so i don't have to bum rides when my car goes down.I guess a daily driver is the best relibility mod, I just wish i didn't need it so soon....

You have a PFC, right? If so, then go to the sensor check menu, and see if anything is amiss.

is the fuel pump running? do you have spark?

seandizzie 04-05-04 11:35 PM

I know i've got fuel cause i can smell it in my garage after turning the engine over. Haven't checked for spark, but I guess thats next. the buzzing sound sounds like its coming from the ignition coil. what would be the right way to check the coil and check for spark, I'm getting a friend to print the work shop manual for me. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this? Still a newbie so I've have no clue where to start

p'cola FD do you drive a red r1 with a front mount? Just wondering cause i saw one on i-10 on friday at about noon.

the engine's flooded and that buzzing is from the idle control valve. it doesn't mean anything. also if your car had been sitting for a while then you might want to check your injectors as a cracked one may be causing the flooding.;)

Sounds like you could be flooded. Pull the plugs, and see if they are all wet. If so, then you need to do the exteded deflooding process.

I drive a red touring with really faded paint. This weekend I was flossing some Blitz type 03s from a friend's car. Feel free to visit our local forum: www.racingpensacola.com

thank you. I'd hate to have pulled my uim just to find it was flooded after my ignition checked out ok. what do I need to do, just pull the plugs and injector fuse and turn it over a while? should i just let it air out with the plugs out?

First, pull the circuit opening relay. and then follow these simple steps:

1)pull plugs, turn engine, with gas to the floor, several times
2)let the car sit for 30 min.
3) repeat steps 1 and 2
4)put a few tablespoons of ATF in the leading plug holes
5) put in new plugs and turn engine over, with gas to the floor, a couple of times
6)start engine normally, being prepared to "catch" the engine if it starts to die.

New plugs are best if the plugs are really fouled, but if you have access to a bead blaster or spark plug cleaner, that will work too.
