Wiring up a horn activation switch

for starters my car came with an aftermarket steering wheel..

I need some sorts of a horn and dont care how..

So far i understand that the green/orange is the wire. How would I wire this into say a nice ugly ass button :)

I dont feel like spending money on a hub to do all of this...

thanks guys

Get a temporary-on pushbutton switch that you like (not a toggle, or temporary-off type). One terminal taps the G/O wire, connect the other side to ground.

That should be fine if you still have the stock horn relays.

HMMMM...no go i just tried grounding that wire and no luck...also seeing voltage on it...

the green/orange wire im testing is in a connector with 2 other lines...

Do i have the right thing??

look under the dash for a harness with a orange and blue connector that plug into it. the horn is the orange one.

you can cut it off and run the wire to the button to that. then you should have a horn if the actual horn itself is still in the front.

The two other lines are the airbag lines.

If everything's properly working and the line isn't grounded (through switch or other means), you will see voltage on that line. It's on the open end of the relays coil.

Listen to see if your horn relay (under stock "resonance chamber"/duct) clicks when you ground the g/o wire. If it does, it's probably time to start wondering whether you actually have horns or not. ;)

i have horns :)
Im wondering if wiring is missing somewheres..this car was a hack job it seems

InsaneGideon 06-28-04 04:27 PM

That's a possibility. When wiring is hacked up, it's difficult for someone to help w/out being there in person. :(

Since the g/o seems to test out OK (so far, anyway) check the relay-->horn conection, before the switch-->relay connection.
