Wiring harness R&R tips?
 

I'm in the process of replacing the main engine wiring harness, as well as the ignition harness that hooks to the battery. I finished off the night with the wires disconnected from everything, but still passing through the firewall. I have the ABS heatshield off and the ABS unbolted, but the harness is being a real bear to come out.
For those of you who have done this before: What is the best way to get the harness through the firewall? I'm sure I can figure out a way, but I figure I'd save the trouble and ask the pro's. Any tips are welcome. Thanks

hell, I just pulled on it until the rubber grommet came unseated from the hole...

I have the grommet out, it's the wires that are being stubborn. Do I need to take anything out from the inside of the car(other than the obvious)?

Make sure the upper connections, way up under the dash are free and you may have to turn them to get them to come through the hole. It's good to have help but don't rip the inside guy's hands off when it goes.

It is easier to come from both sides. I always start by pushing it out from inside the car. Then I pull the slack out from the engine bay and then I go inside the car and start aligning the connectors so I can sort of push them out. Finally pull completely out from the engine bay.

disconnect it from ecu
push thru firewall (from inside the car)
go to engine bay and reach your hand to the fire wall from the passenger fender(become a contorsionist)
and feed it past the abs in between the turbos and abs. it is bolted to the fire wall so you will have to un do that to get it out...

also go to a speed shop and get some heat tape and rap that puppy up so it will not get brittle and it will be problem free!!

Got it out and the new one almost all the way back in today. The reason I was having so much trouble was because, from the inside, I was looking at the wrong set of wires, and overlooked the little metal cover over the harness. Once I took off the two 10mm nuts holding it down, the harness came out like butter (or "I can't believe it's not butter, for you healthy folk).

Got the new harness in today, and my problems seem to be fixed. The car runs smooth and happy with the exception of a few minor quirks.
One more tip: When pulling the wires back through the firewall, spray some silicone lubricant on the grommet to get it in place easier.
