wiring harness modification

I just removed my rat's nest and I am going to be going with the simplified wiring setup on the car. I am going single soon and might be making a new intake manifold. I was just wondering for those of you who have taken out he rats nest, what you have done with the huge snake tail of wiring clips that went to all of the solonoids. Can these just be cut off so the engine bay is cleaned up a bit, or have you wraped them? Just looking for some suggestions for what you have all done with this ugly wiring harrness.

Thanks

As they are not needed, cut them off and insulate the wire tips to prevent accidental contact with any other wire or ground.

Now if there is a chance you might need to go back to stock, leave them but in a nice compact hidden bundle.

thank you so much, I really appreciate the quick and intelligent response. I am quite excited to get that ugly ass bundle out of the car.

or. pull each wire completely out... all the way back at the main plug. pull the pins from the harness. tag each wire, bundle, store. done!

more work, but cleaner... and can still be reverted back to stock.

You cannot just remove them if you are running the stock engine computer. You must install a 330 ohm resister accross each connector for each solanoid you remove.

many options here...you only need resistors if you plan to use the stock ECU.

I am using a pettit ecu at the moment....would that allow me to simply cut or remove the solenoids? I will be going with a PFC, lt12, or E11 in the future, but for now the car will be driven with the pettit. Thanks again for the help.

resistors are needed

Technically, you don't need resistors for everything. Most of the components on the solenoid rack will throw a code, but not one which will trigger a CEL (it will just be logged).

Basically, the ones that either trip the CEL or throw the car into limp mode require resistors.

OR.. do it at the harness and remove the wires. That would again make for a clean install and stock functionality.

anyone here done a wiring swap from Automatic to Manual? or could give some tips how difficult can it be done?

GoodfellaFD3S 06-06-07 11:33 PM

I wrapped each of my unused connectors individually in 3M high-temp electrical tape, then wrapped them up in bundles and tucked them away.

I've been told that one of the seq solenoid connectors shares some wiring with the ISC, so cutting that connector leads to a non-working ISC. Not sure if that's correct, maybe Chuck can chime in.
