The wiring harness to the alternator. . .

I thought this would be an easy one to replace. . .but I'm not having luck finding it on the net. I know most of the connectors are hard to find, but there's gotta be other cars that use this same alternator (other mazdas, fords, etc.) I was thinking about going to the junkyard and looking, but I could look through a million cars to find the right harness.

I haven't talked with Ray @ Malloy, just wanted to get some input first.

I guess worse case scenario I could just connect the two wires to the alternator and put some silicone around them, but I would like to get a new harness if possible.

just go on the forsale section and put a wtb. thats how i got mine, it was a used one with all good connectors.

I don't necessarily want to buy a whole harness, just the one connector.

If you know of a place that rebuilds them in your area you may have luck going to them and asking them about it. I'd guess they would be able to tell you more than you ever wanted to know about your alernator as well as some other cars that may share the same plug.

'90s Mazdas and Nissans both used that same connector in a TON of cars. Just hit up the junkyard, you should be able to find one VERY easily.

BTW, that harness is a separate starting/charging harness. It has the main battery terminals, the main grounds, the harness to the starter, and connects to the front harness via the 2 largish grey connectors that are near the diagnostic connector.

If the plastic isnt broken you can dissamble the plug and rewire it if its only a wire issue.

It is the plastic that is broken in multiple spots. I'm not totally opposed to just connecting the wires (there's only 2) to the posts on the alternator and gooping some silicone around them. . .but that wouldn't look very nice.

Thanks for the info there Dale. . . it makes me feel a little better about hitting the wrecking yard on Monday.

That's a good price for the harness. . . I just went and looked at the rest of mine, and it's really in very good shape. I just can't see replacing the harness for one connector, though. Thanks for thinkin of me!

mono4lamar 03-04-07 05:38 PM

you dont have to replace it... just use mine for parts! you could even sell the rest of it for parts. i just hate having so much shit in my shop. i never take stuff out and put it in storage.

rx slim 03-04-07 06:00 PM

What the hell. . . you're right. I PM'd you.
