Wiring guru's please help

My brake lights won't light when I turn on the lights. They will light when I step on the brake pedal. I have three wires near the gas pedal that are not attached to anything. The three are white with a black stripe, green and black. Any idea what they go to? Do they have anything to do with anything or are the left over from something aftermarket?
Thanks for your help in advance.

are you the same guy who's headlights wont go down?

mad_7tist 01-28-04 10:05 PM

stock alarm wiring i have no idea?

wishbanzai 01-29-04 07:33 PM

No my headlights are fine.

mad_7tist 01-29-04 07:40 PM

check the tns realy, and the 15 amp tail fuse and the 80 amp btn fuse. power gets to all the lights by a r/b wire from the tns relay which gets it's power from a w/g wire from the 15 amp tail fuse.

wishbanzai 01-29-04 10:49 PM

What are tns? Excuse my ignorance. I checked the 15 amp fuse and it is fine. I did not check the 80 amp fuse, but if they light when I press the pedal then this fuse should be fine. Thanks for your help though.

Those don't look like stock wires...

The brake lights are on a separate circuit from the parking lights, even though they're in the same place.

The TNS relay controls all the "parking" lights when you click the headlight switch to the middle and "on" positions. It's located at the very front of the car near the stock airbox, in that relay cluster.

Do any your other parking lights come on?

Everything lights up except for my rears. It's OK as long as I drive just during the day. Everything else works fine also. I'll check that relay when I get home.
Thanks

That relay's probably fine if you're getting your marker lights to turn on.

I'd check the harness and the bulbs too.

wishbanzai 01-31-04 07:23 AM

Bulbs are fine, just replaced all of them. The lights do light up when I press on the brake pedal, just not when I turn on the lights. The relay was OK.

mad_7tist 01-31-04 09:18 AM

well it is either the r/b wire going to the rear prk lights, which also goes to the license plate and side markers, has a open in it, the ground is bad or the multi function switch is bad. the hazards work right?

wishbanzai 02-03-04 07:38 AM

Yes, the hazards work. This is what confuses me. The front turns work. The rears will light up when the hazards are turned on. But they won't work when I turn the lights on.

oakridgerx7 02-03-04 08:33 AM

maybe you bought the wrong bulbs, this happened to a truck I bought, the wrong bulb was the culprit

wishbanzai 02-03-04 06:44 PM

Right bulbs. They work when the hazards are on and when the brake pedal is pressed. I double checked when I bought the bulbs also. Not all the bulbs where replaced. Just most of them.

As logn as we are on the wires subject, anmyone know where I can get a new set of wires for the engine, with caps connectors? Mine are all dried up crappy and breaking.

wishbanzai 02-04-04 11:30 AM

You can buy used engine harnesses, but they will do the same thing. I use a leather/vinyl conditioner and spray it on everything plastic and rubber. Let it dry a long time before using the car, and watch out for your electrical components.
