Windshield Wipe Blade Problems

Even with new wiper blades: after they wipe about 2 minutes in the rain and all the crap is wiped off, they start griping the window so hard that they start jumping. The only way to stop it is at full wiper speed. If the washer fluid is then squirted, it stops for a little while. Seems to be too much friction between the blades and glass.

I wonder if the Rain-X is the problem as I do not remember ever having this problem until using it. It does this with the stock Mazda wiper blades and normal aftermarket one.

Anyone have this problem? I wonder if the new one piece Bosch blades will work OK. Maybe I have to stop using Rain-X.

Chuck, I use rain-x. It is raining like crazy here in Nashville and they are working fine. I can see what your talking about though how they grip. If all the rain is wiped off then why don't you just turn em to a lower level or just off. I think rain-x's are designed so they can wipe off heavy duty rain on the windshield so running them in light rain might cause that problem your having

Mine do the same thing, wondering if anyone has the solution. I just never minded it and adjusted wiper speed or turned them off completely

The slower the wiping speed, the more jumping/hoping they do. Thus using the intermittant action is the worse.
I only use them for heavy rain as I was in today. Light rain at speed, the Rain-X causes the water to blow off.

worn motor or linkages?

my '84 RX-7 used to do that, the linkages were kinda loose.

my '93 doesn't

I think its more in the wiper itself. When there is enough water (a lot) then it works just fine.

Do you have the OEM style wiper with the integrated wing? I noticed that if I used a off-the-shelf wiper w/o the wing, the wiper would chatter. Didn't matter if it was with or w/o rainx

I recently tried one of the new style Rain-X wipers on my other car and it seems to be performing well there. I also bought the new style Bosch (Icon?) for the FD but haven't tried it in the wet yet.

Wiper linkage is tight. Mazda arms, blades, with Mazda 3 month old blade inserts.
Only does it after the glass gets real clean. You can hear the wipers squeek.
Too clean and too much friction.
