Winding noise inthe transmission
 

I assume this is the pilot bearing. I think I read up here at one point someone had a windings sound in the tranny as well and it ended up being the pilot bearing. I think it cracked while I was doing a 4th gear pull tuning the car. I had my friend build speed and just as he got to about 7k rpm the power kinda cut, and then the tranny started makign that noise. everything shifts fine and what nto just a crappy windings noise. Sounds just like a dog box.

I had a winding noise once. Then, I shattered the 5th gear synchro and toasted the entire transmission. That sucked :( Well, that's my input. Good luck to you. I hope it's just the pilot bearing and not the transmission.

need more info... does it change pitch depending on what gear your in...etc

does it make noise with the clutch in while the car is not moving?

Could be a lot of things. Pilot bearing and input shaft main bearing are popular failure points, and hard to tell apart based on sound.

Could also be something inside the tranny.

i had the same problem.. if you get the problem only when pressing down on clutch then its the bearing thats behind the clutch towards the back.. dammit forgot the name.. My brother just changed mine last week and its all sweet again. thrust bearing?????????

It make snoise only when pullign in all gears. if it sits in neutral nothing. If I press the clutch in, nothing, if i put it in first and pull it'll make the winding sound and pitch will get a little higher. If I cruise in higher gears at lower RPMs its not noticeable all that much. I'm hoping its not inside the tranny. But Like I said after the 4th gear pull power dive is when it started happening, which I why I fear its internal. But right now it shifts into all the gears just fine, no crunch or anyting to speak of. people say they sell somehting burning, like a clutch and what not, its a 4 puck racing clutch form spec. But thats the smell of no cat and 850cc and 1300cc injectors ahhaa. My sens eof smell though is almost non exsistant. I havent had a chance to look yeah but I knwo its nto the throw out bearing, and the noise if def comign form the front of the tranny near the bell house is what it sounds like. i fill put it up sometime this week putit in gear and take a closer listen while I do some other stuff.
