wide band/meth injection

Ok i have been doing some searching and asking questions and i still can`t make up my mind on what to get. I want to buy a wideband and i also want to buy a water injection kit. There are a few options out there and i just don't know what to get.any suggestions would be appreciated

My goal 350 hp.
currently.
3" Down pipe
3" maganflow mid pipe
3" single tip racing beat cat back.
stock twins
Old PFS purple box~~~~> debating on PFC or microtech
crappy intake + filters
greddy pulley kit-no air pump
no-AC
no-PS
4.10 rear end with TII clutch type LSD
everything else is pretty much stock.

I bought the coolingmist trunk mount. When I bought mine they had a special on some kits that had "tooling marks" on the tank which saved me $100 bucks on the kit. It looks like a good kit and the install was easy. I ran the hoses through the fuel pump wire boot and down to the fuel line loom under the drivers seat. I used the fuel pump power supply to trigger 2 relays, one for the meth inj. and one for the fuel pump rewire. I also bought the inline filter and flow/clog detector. I have an innovate lc1 wideband. I haven't heard many positive reviews from this wideband but only time will tell for me.

I run the same LC-1 wideband. Its a great wideband for accuracy and quick rsponse, good software. But it is very fragile/sensitive to stuff like grounding and calibration

I would be concerned about the accuracy of any wideband that wasn't sensitive to grounding issues and calibration.

+1 for the LC-1

I personally would pick up a very basic H20 injection kit. Something like the base model, boost activated pump and nozzle coolingmist set up. Then buy a wideband as well. For 350whp there is no need for an extravagant aux injection system. I would get a tune without running the aux injection then throw in on afterwards as a nice blanket over the whole map.

+1 on the LC-1 from innovate. I have had it for two years now and it works great. Just calibrate it (takes less than a minute) a few times a year, mainly when the seasons change.

I use aquamist. with AEM wideband...I Wouldnt use meth just to get 350HP..no need for it..Trust me I made 380 HP with out meth..Unless you want it for safety, but I dont see you needing it...

I got the coolingmist trunk mount kit. Install was easy and works well. For your goals you only need the basic kit to run water. As far as widebands I picked up the PLX unit with a DM-200 gauge. Its a real nice unit.

AEM. Check out my setup in my sig. There is no dyno on my island, but I am sure that I am over 350rwhp based on my 1/4 mph.

Just run water, don't bother with meth

Why not bother with methanol?

Howard Coleman 07-11-09 07:34 AM

you have some good mods already. no PS or AC is near the top of my list. i recommend the PFC ecu. i have no experience w microtech so i am not knocking it but i do have very high regard for the PFC especially combined w a Datalogit. you can find them bargain priced in the classifieds.

as far as AI... the only mistake is not to run AI. you could run meth or meth/water but i suggest straight water for your application. simple effective... and you can always change injectants later if you wish.

good luck,

howard

At his HP levels, it is not needed.

MOBEONER 07-11-09 08:59 PM

by methanol i was referring to Windshield washer fluid. am i correct?

WaachBack 07-12-09 12:41 AM

Not really. It depends on what fluid you run. Some have a little as 2% Meth, while some have as much as 38%.

Just run straight water.

I wouldn't run windshield washer fluid unless there was NO other choice... Sure there is a little methanol in there, but there are also alot of cleaning solvents and other random crap.

If you don't want to shell out for some proper racing methanol (VP M1 is great! and the 5 gallon drum will last awhile) then just run distilled water... Unless you're spraying the A/I mixture almost constantly than that 5 gallon drum will last you a LONG time. I nursed a single drum for at least 6 months before moving from England, and I still had enough left over to give to a friend. Paying $40-$50 for 6+ months of use is well worth it imo.

I would advise against running tap water, or anything less pure than straight rain water for that matter.

I have an lc1 and it's garbage. Im gonna pick up a FJO unit.

MOBEONER 07-12-09 09:02 PM

Ok so so far i am looking at aem basic water injection kit and aem wide band gauge.

or aquamist basic kit and fjo wide band.

Uncle Hungry 07-12-09 09:19 PM

Get a fjo man, aem is as unreliable as the innovate. Just google it.

I'm a fan of Aquamist personally. The 1S kit is cheap and pretty easy to install, not to mention that the newer pumps are BEASTS that are almost impossible to kill (something like 2 minutes of being run continuously empty of water water before burning the motor out).
