Why can't we use AVC-R?

Why can't we use AVC-R for engine management... I would post this in the engine management section but the avcr section seems to only be visited by fc and fb owners

Do you mean the AFC? I thought the AVC was the boost controller. I had the AFC in my car, but I only used it to smooth out my idle, but I did see a pic of one in another FD and would have to assume he (or she) was actually using it to tune.

because the AVC-R isn't an engine management system...it's a boost controller. It doesn't change your fuel. It doesn't change your timing. It does nothing except to regulate boost.

I think he was talking about the SAFC

rynberg 03-23-04 04:36 PM

This has been discussed MANY times, at least three threads in the last two months.

The S-AFC does not have nearly high enough resolution for safe tuning. More importantly, it does not allow higher than stock levels of boost. Since you don't need an ecu to run 10 psi with the bolt-ons, it's pretty much worthless for an FD.

That and the fact that it does nothing for timing. Its a ghetto bandaid solution.

exactly, stop trying to take the cheap way around it :p:
