For all wondering weather or not to buy a fd...

Last night, I was driving my fd at night when an moron in a BIG ass SUV starts to cut into my lane when he is right next to me! I saw this in the corner of my eye and had to emergency lane change at ~70+mph and I though my car would skid or spin out at those speeds but it turns out it hooked right up. im pretty sure that if i was driving any other car like such as a supra,300zx,3000gt (u know the other heavy japan cars which may have high hp but suck at handling) I would have surely been in big trouble. Thank god I drive a fd!

P.S. Anyone else got similar stories?

Mr. Belvi 03-05-02 02:02 AM

That's not exactly something that only an FD would be able to accomplish...I do the same basically everyday in my Civic because of the way that people drive here in Altanta.

skunks 03-05-02 02:06 AM

ahhh, it must suck to drive in altanta.

anyways i never said only a fd could do that, im sure any modified car could do it.

You don't know the half of it...just yesterday I was driving down the road at 60mph and some old grandma in her Astro van pulls onto the road, cutting me off and crossing over 4 lanes, then flips me off when I honked at her...

driftin180sx 03-05-02 02:16 AM

i get rutinely cut off so often that i just watch people pull into my lane these days on a direct coarse to side swipe me and i calmly take evasive action without even thinking or getting mad... i guess it just comes with living in the d.c. area

Stock Civic. My daily driver. :)

billvp 03-05-02 02:47 AM

I've got a Stealth tt (like a 3000gt VR4), and that is no problem here either.

Tad 03-05-02 03:21 AM

yeah, supras handle pretty darned good,
not as good, but close.

I used to have a civic,
with the stock 13" wheels, it handled like a piece of shit,
couldnt even take freeway on-ramps without squealing the tires.

Put on some aftermarket 15" with bridgestone's top of the line tires though, and handling was night and day,
it "felt" almost as good as my fd did(although it probly wasnt, hehe)

Of course, change the tires and rims and you will notice a difference. The tires that they have on there stock are on for tread life, not performance.

Flybye 03-05-02 09:28 AM

Tire sidewall strength make a HUGE differance. My buddy with RE730s on 17" wheels lent me his wheels for a few days. I got the stockers with RE71s on em. Let me tell you, on the highwall, it had a TERRIBLE floating effect everytime I would change lanes. It felt as if I was going to slide off the road. NEVER get cheap tires

Bacon 03-05-02 09:40 AM

yea tires make a huge difference

my *short story...ripping it down a empty 2 lane back road doin roughly 140+ a car pulls out less than 1/4 mi away(there were cars in the slow lane and it was a divided highway)
get on brakes had well into abs...emerg lane change with abs kickin at abt 80mph...then back over into the passing lane b/c of cars in slow lane...
close call id be dead if it was any other car...car felt like it was on a track like the rides in disney world :D

I think you guys are missing the drivers point.. I think i am understanding where he is comming from.. It wasn't a oh, let me just get out of the way.. It was a OH SHIT! grab the wheel & turn hard as he could :)

Most car would loose their rear end doing this. (possibly not a FWD car)

Couple weeks ago, I decided to do a 3rd gear boost test at night after raining. The weekend before I just installed Apexi N1 susp., HKS Racing Ti, and Blitz boost controller, so the car feels and sounds good. The ground is somewhat dry and I thought since it's in 3rd gear and I got 275/40/17 tires on the back it should be ok. So my buddy tagged along w/ stopwatch to do the actual timing. So we came up to this deserted winding road and I go the 3rd and punch it at 30mph. At around 45-50 mph, all the boost come on due to non-sequential.. and BOOM the car slides violently and I almost lost it to the trees. My buddy didn't really notice it cause he was lookin at the stopwatch. So we went back home and just on right time I decided to do it one more time. Same as before I punched it in 3rd at 30 mph and sure enough the thing pulled to right so hard I couldn't control it.. we left to road and slide on the grass for a good 100 feet before stopping just couple feet from a big tree. Man... I'm sooo lucky that night. It could've been another FD wreck. The thing is the whole area is woods so I'm truly fortunate not to hit a single thing.
Wouldn't do it again for a million dollars though.

so your telling me you punched it when wet on a curvy road and you did not expect the rear wheels to kick out?
in anycase, fd's suck in the rain unless you can control a drift or actually like doing it. any car that light with that much hp will do the exact same thing.
personnaly i dont drive in the rain with my fd.

EricM 03-06-02 07:11 AM

yes I punched it on a wet road, but only on the straight part of it. The rear end kick out while I was going straight.

ttpowerd 03-06-02 07:53 AM

yeah I drive to down town atlanta from marietta everyday and the traffic is bad, the drivers are bad, and there is not enough room for everyone of those dang suv's
