Who still repairs clusters?
 

Going through the list, I've seen conflicting information, so I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me.

Circuit Board Medics - used them two years ago on another cluster, they sent me an email last week saying they no longer do FD clusters.

DNA Speedometers - two emails, no reply. I've seen forum posts from 2015 saying they don't do it, but I believe someone here had their cluster done about a year ago.

I've heard people mention someone on the forums that does it (or fb, specifically) but time may be an issue.

Does anyone have a reliable source for fixing the cluster? (my tach decides to jump and read incorrectly at times) Turnaround time is somewhat important.

Depend on what needs to be fix, you should take a stab at it if you can do some basic soldering, that will be the quickest. Mine went out 10 years ago, 3 weeks after I got the car, all it took was to replace 1 capacitor and it has been working fine since.

Don't even bother with fixing it yourself.

Use Michael Gagne here on the forum. He is super fast, very reasonable, and talented.

He fixed 2 for me in less than 3 hours and texted and sent videos and pictures during the process.

I have soldering experience, and it would be the quickest/easiest way to go about it, but I'm concerned I might mess up a mundane but critical detail (polarity, for example.) Something I should know not to mess up but failed to cross my mind at the time.

It's basically a jumpy tach, It will sometimes change position when driving, or reads higher than normal when it wants to.

I had mine done about a year ago at DNA and they did a great job. Information is on my build page. 93 rx7 improving a great sportscar

Here's the real issue:
IF you ruin the cluster trying to repair it, it will be more costly than letting a seasoned vet fix it for a reasonable price.

AND he has the equipment to test and calibrate it properly. That's worth it to me.

Send it to Canada to mr.gagne. he did 3 clusters for me a couple months ago. A white face 99 a black face 99 and a regular 93. Had them fixed and sent back to me in less time than it took to get there. Sent me pictures and videos as he did it as well. Theres no reason to use anyone else.

Yep, Michael Gagne HANDS DOWN. He has an FD and is an enthusiast and has repaired HUNDREDS at this point. Not only does he have a full test setup to thoroughly test every part of it when done, he will also calibrate it and fix any potential future problems - caps that will someday leak, etc. VERY reasonable price and typically same day turnaround.

He's mainly active on the FB RX-7 group, best way to get up with him is FB.

I had him do my cluster and friend's not too long ago, super happy with the results. Also he can repair PFC commander screens.

Nice, thread i too am interested in repairing the cluster. (Returning to the FD after 15 years of unexpected hibernation, got married, then 4 kids I was ~ 21 back then now 42!)
Anyhow, I spoke to DNA Speedometers earlier this week after sending an e-mail beforehand (that got no response, so i called in). It looks like they still work on FD clusters, the guy was friendly over the phone, was familiar with the odometers dying, jumpy tach, speedometer, etc.

However, looks like, "Michael Gagne" is overwhelming favorite here. I searched for many iterations of Michael Gagne (Michael_Gagne, M Gagne, Gagne, etc.). I then realized FB = Facebook (thanks Dale Clark), searched for Michael Gagne, searched for an RX7 group, there seem to be a lot, then i got confused does FB refer to 1st gen or Facebook? Which FB RX-7 group is Michael Gagne affiliated with, or is there a contact for him?

Damn I may send mine to him.

I'm probably going to send mine to Mr. Gagne next winter when my FD is hibernating as preventive maintenance. They pretty much ALL fail somehow over time when the capacitors eventually start puking their guts all over the circuit board, which causes a multitude of random failures and destruction. Better to replace them all when everything is still intact and working.

10/10 service and turnaround. highly recommended

Sorry, FB = Facebook. There is a Facebook group just called "RX7" that he is very active on. He is Michael Gagné (note the accent) on there, he is French Canadian.

Probably going through that Instagram link would be an easy way as well.

He does have a forum account that I can never remember. He isn't on here very often, though.

Atlanta Speedometer does an excellent job. There is a one week turn around.It's only 350.00 for everything but new light bulbs, look on his web page for that.
atlantaspeedometer.com He can also reset the miles if you buy a used cluster.
